Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "From Ashes" DLC starts with a mission to recover a prothean artifact from which world?

Answer: Eden Prime (the first world from "Mass Effect")

The "Mass Effect" series started with a mission to Eden Prime to recover an uncovered prothean artifact. The "From Ashes" DLC started the same way. The second time around, Eden Prime looked much nicer because everything wasn't on fire.
2. During the mission to recover the prothean artifact in "From Ashes", which group attacked Shepard?

Answer: Cerberus

The first time Shepard went to Eden Prime to recover a prothen artifact, the geth were the opposing force. This time, it was Cerberus, the pro-human terrorist organization who were willing to kill humans by the thousands to further their goals. When Shepard arrived at the dig site, the civilians had already fled or been killed by Cerberus.
3. The prothean artifact turned out to contain an actual prothean in stasis: Javik. Protheans had avatars that embodied single ideals. What was Javik the avatar of?

Answer: Vengeance

Javik was a soldier whose only goal was to destroy the Reapers. This narrow-minded, violent focus and his dismissal of anything political made him unhelpful in Shepard's quest to unite and coordinate the races of the galaxy.
4. When did the Reapers attack during Javik's cycle of extinction?

Answer: The Reapers attacked 300 years before Javik was born

Javik was born 300 years into the conflict, only ever knowing war. The genocide of an entire galaxy was a long process, taking hundreds of years. This was something that concerned Liara; while the reapers in "Mass Effect 3" were winning on every front, the mopping up action after defeating the galaxy would probably take centuries - centuries Liara would likely live to see.
5. Had Javik seen the Citadel during his cycle, 50,000 years prior to the events of "Mass Effect 3"?

Answer: No

The Reapers attacked the galaxy through the Citadel - the hidden mass relay connected to dark space. It was the heart of the prothean empire, and the first place to fall. Javik, who was born after the war had started, never saw the Citadel until Shepard brought him in the current cycle.
6. What happened to Javik's old squad during the previous Reaper cycle?

Answer: Javik killed them

Protheans transfered memories through touch, helping them communicate complex ideas quickly. Javik had an Echo Shard (a memory storage device) in his quarters. If Shepard recommended he use it, he would relive some memories of his ancestors, as well as some of his own traumatic memories.

Javik once commanded a team similar to Shepard, but they were captured, indoctrinated, and sent after him. After years of being hunted, at the battle of Cronian Nebula, Javik was reduced to just his knife. He slit the throats of his former friends, one by one.
7. How does Javik feel about EDI, Legion, and all synthetic lifeforms?

Answer: They should be thrown out the airlock

According to Javik, all artificial intelligences were prone to betraying their organic masters and friends. He reiterated his suggestion multiple times that Legion and EDI should be thrown out the airlock, and that anyone responsible for creating an A.I. should suffer a similar fate.
8. During Javik's cycle, the raw livers of which species were considered a delicacy?

Answer: Salarian

On the mission to Sur'kesh, Wrex (if he's alive) would try to provoke his guards by saying he preferred his salarian liver raw. If Javik was brought along, he would confirm that it was a delicacy during his cycle.
9. What was the protheans' relationship with the rachni in the previous cycle?

Answer: The rachni were bred as living weapons

The protheans bred the rachni as living weapons and would release them on the worlds of their enemies. The rachni were smarter than the protheans anticipated and turned on their captors. The protheans began their own genocide of the rachni, but a handful survived (being bred to be cunning and warlike), which rebuilt their population after the last Reaper cycle and became a menace in the next cycle.
10. Which species was uplifted by the protheans?

Answer: Asari

The asari were the first species of the current cycle to reach the Citadel and were the most technologically advanced. While on Thessia, Shepard and crew traveled to the temple of Athame, the goddess of an old asari religion. The statue looked remarkably like a prothean. If Javik was brought on the mission, he would confirm that Athame had been a prothean, and that his species had given the asari a boost, setting them up to dominate their cycle.
