Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which former squad member, from "Mass Effect 2", could be found in "Mass Effect 3" helping the krogan reverse the Genophage (assuming they survived).

Answer: Mordin Solus

Mordin was a salarian scientist who had worked to preserve the effects of the Genophage. After traveling with Shepard in "Mass Effect 2", he came to realize that controlling the krogan was wrong, and began working to undo the effects of the bioweapon. In "Mass Effect 3" he was working with krogan females to find a cure, and secretly tipped off the krogan leaders that a cure was being developed.

In "Mass Effect 3", Shepard found Mordin on Sur'Kesh, the salarian homeworld. They then traveled to Tuchanka, the krogan homeworld, to release the cure into the atmosphere (or not, depending on Shepard's actions).
2. Cerberus was one of the three main factions fought in "Mass Effect 3". What was the name of their large, heavy mech unit?

Answer: Atlas

Atlas mechs were large bipedal death machines with heavy cannons and rocket launchers. They were piloted by Assault Troopers and had heavy armor. Shepard could take down the shields and then shoot through the canopy to kill the pilot, leaving the mech intact. Shepard could then take control of the mech and turn it back against Cerberus.

The Nemesis was the Cerberus sniper unit, the Brute was the Reaper heavy unit, and Colossi were large geth units that did not make an appearance in "Mass Effect 3".
3. There were six different classes in "Mass Effect 3" that players could choose from. Which class was know for having access to both tech and biotic powers, and for being able to use Tech Armor?

Answer: Sentinel

There were three main areas of focus: combat, tech, and biotics. Each of the six classes was either a specialist in one, or a hybrid between two. The Sentinel was the tech/biotic hybrid. Throughout the "Mass Effect" series, they were known for having incredibly strong defenses, though not necessarily large damage output.

In classic RPG roles, they would be called a "tank". In "Mass Effect 2", the Sentinel gained the unique Tech Armor ability, letting them soak up massive amounts of damage, and stun nearby enemies when it depleted. Tech Armor was carried through to "Mass Effect 3" with some small tweaks.
4. Joker was the Normandy's pilot, but the ship was too big to land in most locations. Instead, Shepard and the squad would set down using the shuttle piloted by which crew member?

Answer: Steven Cortez

Steve Cortez was trained as a fighter pilot, but was just as capable of flying shuttles. When not flying, he maintained the Normandy's armory and oversaw requisitions while bantering with James Vega. He was also a romance option for male Shepards.

Adams was the chief engineer on the Normandy, Chakwas was the medical officer, and Ashley was a squad member from the first "Mass Effect".
5. The Reapers were horrific enemies that would warp and mutate existing species to become specialized soldiers. Which Reaper enemies were made from rachni, sported two heavy cannons, and could release Swarmers?

Answer: Ravagers

Ravagers were made from rachni found on Utukku. The original rachni workers, small suicide units from "Mass Effect", were also corrupted into Swarmers. Ravagers had very powerful, long-range attacks to force their targets to stay in cover while Swarmers and other Reaper forces approached.
6. In "Mass Effect 3", after destroying the Cerberus headquarters, where did the final showdown against the Reapers take place?

Answer: Earth

"Mass Effect 3" was the only game in the trilogy in which Shepard set foot on Earth. The first and last missions took place on Earth, opening in Vancouver, and finishing in London.

Once acquiring the Normandy in "Mass Effect 2", it started beside Omega, while the final mission in took place in the galactic core. Thessia was the asari homeworld, and visited near the end of "Mass Effect 3".
7. Who was Shepard's asari squad member in "Mass Effect 3"?

Answer: Liara T'Soni

Liara was a primary squad member in both "Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect 3", and a temporary squad member in "Mass Effect 2" during the "Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC. She was one of the few characters guaranteed to survive until the the final mission in "Mass Effect 3".

Tali and Garrus were both regular squad members in all three games (provided they survived). Javik was a DLC squad member in "Mass Effect 3".
8. To whom did Shepard send reports and chat with after each mission in "Mass Effect 3"?

Answer: Admiral Hackett

After each mission Shepard would most often have a talk with Admiral Hackett, who was organizing humanity's forces away from Earth. Occasionally Shepard would talk to Admiral Anderson on Earth. Shepard rarely spoke to Hackett in person, but used the quantum entanglement communicator attached to the Normandy's war room.

Councilor Udina was the human representative on the Citadel Council, Primarch Victus was the leader of the turian forces, and Dalatrass Linron was a high ranking salarian leader.
9. Apart from the krogan, what species were the salarians studying at their secret base on Sur'Kesh?

Answer: Yahg

The yahg were a pre-spaceflight race that were both incredibly cunning, and vicious. The first contact teams sent by the Council were slaughtered, and the planet was declared off-limits.

One yahg was captured and taken away by agents of the Shadow Broker. The intelligent yahg eventually killed the broker, and assumed the role for himself. Shepard and Liara met this yahg in the "Mass Effect 2" DLC, "Lair of the Shadow Broker".

In "Mass Effect 3", more yahg were seen on Sur'Kesh, and some escaped when Cerberus began their attack. The ramifications of loose yahg were never addressed.
10. Use the first letter of the previous nine correct answers to spell the name of an object found in "Mass Effect 3".

Answer: Mass Relay

One of the most important pieces of technology in the "Mass Effect" universe was the Mass Relay. They were seeded throughout the galaxy in pairs, letting ships jump across the galaxy much faster than they could under their own power. Without the Mass Relays, ships were essentially confined to their own star clusters.

For humanity, Pluto's moon Charon turned out to be a Mass Relay encased in ice. Once it had been extracted, humanity joined the greater galactic community (after a brief a war with the turians).
