Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Need For Speed: World" is different from the other "Need For Speed" games in what way?

Answer: It is a freemium MMO

"Need For Speed: World" is the only game of the "Need For Speed" series to be available for freemium. That means that most aspects of the game are provided for free, but for better cars and parts players will have to pay. In the game, there are two payment functions. One is with SpeedBoost. SpeedBoost has to be purchased using real money. Most cars, card packs, and some parts are available exclusively for SpeedBoost. The other form of currency in the game is IGC, or In-Game Cash. Players gain IGC by racing. Cars, the lowest level of Performance Parts and Skill Mods, and other modifications can be bought with IGC. Every few weeks, cars are released for IGC and others are either removed from the game or returned to being an exclusive SpeedBoost purchase.

While all the "Need For Speed" games have a certain amount of online gameplay, they also have a single player campaign. "Need For Speed: World" alone does not have a single player option. Instead, it is a MMORG, or a Massively Multiplayer Online Racing Game.
2. The cars in the game are categorized into how many classes?

Answer: Six

There are six car classes (E, D, C, B, A, and S) with E composed of the lowest level of cars, and S consisting of the highest level. All cars have a stock rating based on their handling, acceleration, and top speed. Based on that rating, they are classified into the classes.

E Class: cars with 249 and below rating
D Class: 250 - 399
C Class: 400 - 499
B Class: 500 - 599
A Class: 600 - 749
S Class: cars with 750 and above rating

All cars can be tuned into higher classes through the addition of Performance Parts such as engines, transmissions, and brakes. However, no car can be tuned lower than its stock class.
3. Where would a player go to repair and modify cars?

Answer: Safehouse

The Safehouse is comprised of several parts. Players can go to the Safehouse to access their garage and change and repair their cars. Car Customization takes players to the workshops where they can buy Skill Mods, Performance Parts, and Aftermarket Parts and modify their cars. Also part of car customization are the Vinyl and Paint Shops for decorating the vehicles. The Car Dealer, where cars are bought and sold, is also accessed in the Safehouse.

Players can also change to other drivers on the same account, buy card packs for car modifications, and edit their Powerup Console for use in events. Prior to 2013, detailed driver statistics could also be found in the Safehouse, but that capability was removed on April 10, 2013 as win-loss ratios would no longer be available due to the addition of Achievements.
4. What daily free roam event would players get rewards from upon completion?

Answer: Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt is a daily event where players collect 15 jewels randomly scattered over a certain area of the map. At the end, players get a certain amount of cash and reputation, and an unknown reward. The reward could be any level of Performance Part or Skill Mod. If Treasure Hunt is done daily (each day changes and a new Treasure Hunt appears at 12:00 AM GMT time), players get a continuous streak.

Theoretically, the longer the streak the better the reward at the end.
5. What do players use while in a race to boost their performance or add to an ability?

Answer: Powerups

Powerups add to the cars abilities in an event. They can be activated by a player selecting the powerup they want in their Powerup Console. The Powerup Console can be modified in the Safehouse.

A console has a maximum of four different kinds of Powerups. Some Powerups are tailored to enhance performance in a certain event. For example, "Run Flats" fix your tires instantly if you go over a spike strip in Team Escape or Pursuit. Powerups can be crucial to a race, as they include Nitrous, which gives the car a powerful boost, Juggernaut that increases weight until police and other players can be tossed in the air, and many others.

Performance Parts, Skill Mods, and Aftermarket Parts also increase cars' performance, but they only affect a car's overall performance. Once in an event, the parts cannot be used to add an additional boost. However, Skill Mods may enhance the effects of Powerups.
6. Of the different events in the game, which events involve racing against other opponents?

Answer: Sprint and Circuit

Sprints and Circuits are the two basic racing events in the game. In Sprints, racers drive from a starting point and finish at a different place on the map. In Circuits, however, the race describes a circle and continues for two laps, or possibly three if players add a lap.

There are fifty racing events in the game. Of those, although the majority are open events, many are also class-restricted, only allowing cars of a particular class to race against each other. Also, two are Rally races, added in-game on July 23rd, 2013.

Sprints and Circuits are the only events that can be raced as multiplayer matches, private races, and single player matches, where players are pitted against computer generated bots.
7. What do players try to evade in Team Escape?

Answer: Police

In Team Escape, players drive from one set point to another, avoiding roadblocks and dodging police. Within a certain time frame, players must reach the end without using up all their strikes. Strikes allow for players to get busted or caught by the police, but the player then respawns on a teammate and continues. However, a team is only given 2-3 strikes, depending on the event. When the strikes are used up, subsequent busts lead to the driver's arrest, ending that player's run, even though teammates may still escape by reaching the end.

Of the eight Team Escape events in the game, six are class-restricted, so only players driving cars of a certain class may enter the event restricted to that class. The police drive Dodge chargers, Dodge challengers, and Rhino SUVs, but aside from class restrictions, players are allowed to drive any car in a Team Escape event.
8. In Drag races, players drive by doing what?

Answer: Shifting gears

Players race in Drag events by shifting gears to achieve maximum acceleration. In Drag, there are three shift ranges, Good Shift, Perfect Shift, and Over Rev. Changing gears in the "Good Shift" range will do nothing, while over revving leads to slow shifting. Perfect Shifts, however, give the player an acceleration boost with a shot of nitrous. Drag racers have the option of automatic or manual transmission.

In automatic, players do not need to change gears, it is done for them. However automatic shifting only achieves Good Shifts. Players can Over Rev and do Perfect Shifts by racing in manual mode, but not in automatic.
9. Players attempt to run from police as long as possible in which single player event?

Answer: Pursuit

The sole objective of Pursuit is to evade the police for as long as possible, ultimately finishing the event by cooling down. Pursuit is similar to Team Escape in that a player attempts to run from police. Unlike Team Escape, however, only one person may drive in a Pursuit event. Also dissimilar to Team Escape is that Team Escape makes the drivers follow one, preset track from beginning to end, whereas Pursuit allows the player to roam all over the world. In Pursuit there are no strikes; a bust is the end-all.

There are 5 heat levels in Pursuit. Cooling down after reaching a higher level results in a relatively more generous reward.
10. Introduced in 2013, what is the system of earning badges for Driver Score known as?

Answer: Achievements

Electronic Arts introduced Achievements to the game on April 10, 2013. In the system, each driver adds to their Driver Score by completing requirements and gaining badges. The badges all have different requirements, ranging from winning multiplayer races to owning and customizing cars. Completing badge requirements also brings a reward. Each badge has five levels, and the higher the level completed, the better the reward. Players who accumulate 5000 points gain the Bugatti Veyron, claimed to be the fastest car in the game.

Players can display four badges of their choice in their profiles.
