Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The son of the game's anti-hero protagonist John Marston.

Answer: Jack

Players did not get to officially meet Jack until the final set of missions for John near the end of solo (campaign) game play. Jack dreamed of being a writer, was a bit whiny for his age (about 16) and voiced by Texan Josh Blaylock. After the game's final mission for John, Jack has one of his own, and can free-roam the map. Another character in the game seemed to insinuate John may have had a daughter as well, but the Marston family never discussed her whereabouts. Jack was one of the characters who appeared in the bizzaro world of "Undead Nightmare".

Trivia- in the game GTA 5, Franklin had a book on the bookshelf of his home that was called "Red Dead" and written by J. Marston. Given John's fate, it could be presumed that Jack wrote the book in the early to mid 1900s.
2. This woman and her father saved John's life near the start of the game, after he was shot out at Fort Mercer.

Answer: Bonnie

John's mission was to bring in (or kill) his former associates Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella. He had been forced into this situation by government men, who'd abducted his family as incentive. Bonnie MacFarlane and her father, Drew, came upon a dying John and took him to their farm.

He was patched up at the farm, and later repaid this debt to the family several times over. Kimberly Irion voiced Bonnie, a saucy, sassy, single lady in the early times of the 20th century. Bonnie also appeared in "Undead Nightmare".
3. The leader of John's former gang, and last of those that John killed.

Answer: Dutch

John had been injured during a bank robbery, and abandoned by his fellow gang members, several years prior to the start of the game in 1911. He felt betrayed by them, and decided to give up his life of crime. And, while John acknowledged multiple times that Dutch was a bit mad, he did not think Dutch had always been all bad. John even told the government guys Dutch was a better man than any of them, as they traveled up into the mountains to kill him. Benjamin Byron Davis voiced Dutch, and he even looked a bit like a younger version of the character. Dutch was killed in the mission "And The Truth Shall Set You Free".
4. John's nagging, complaining, wife with a questionable professional background.

Answer: Abigail

Like Jack, Abigail was active near the end of the game. It was insinuated a few times that Abigail had once been a prostitute, before she married John. To me, instead of empowered, this character came off as ungrateful and annoying. She displayed a lack of respect for what John went through to save her, but also showed a jealousy of the acquaintance John had with Bonnie. Sophia Marzocchi did the voice work for this character. Abigail also appeared in "Undead Nightmare".
5. The local snake oil salesman who did *not* die at the hands of John.

Answer: Nigel West Dickens

John needed the man's help to procure a weapon for the assault on Fort Mercer. So, Nigel had John do various tasks for him, including buggy races and impersonating a customer. Nigel had incurred a pretty poor reputation in New Austin, so John had to help keep the man alive. Don Creech was the voice of the money hungry con artist.
6. The legendary gunslinger John met in Chuparosa, Mexico.

Answer: Landon Ricketts

Landon taught John the art of Dead Eye, which made it possible for John to hit more than one target per draw of his weapon. Dead Eye was used in random duels that came up in the game as well. Landon had lost his zest for gunslinging, but when a Mexican woman named Luisa needed their help, John and Landon teamed up to rescue her. Luisa was in love with the Mexican rebel Abraham Reyes, who almost always called her "Laura" instead. Reyes had many lovers. Ross Hagen was the voice for Landon.
7. The power hungry underling of Colonel Agustin Allende, who John first met in Escalera.

Answer: Vicente De Santa

Captain De Santa had no real use for his Mexican citizens, and was rumored to have a special fondness for other men. He did a lot of the dirty work for Allende, and tasked John's help so John could find Javier Escuella. Both De Santa and Allende got killed in the game play. Hector Luis Bustamante provided the comical dialogue for De Santa.
8. Keeper of peace in the town of Armadillo, in New Austin.

Answer: Leigh Johnson

Marshal Leigh Johnson, voiced by Anthony De Longis, tried to keep things quiet in the small town of Armadillo. Cooperating with him was one of John's first missions, after dealing with the MacFarlane family.
9. Mexican rebel leader, who John met though Luisa Fortuna.

Answer: Abraham Reyes

Reyes was an enemy of the Mexican government. He'd been born into a wealthy family, but his goal in life seemed to be infamous. He organized an army of rebels and, with John's reluctant help, took down Allende. John had several missions involving Reyes while in Mexico. He was voiced by Josh Segarra, who went on to play on the TV series "Chicago P.D." and "Sirens".
10. He was the professor, in Blackwater, determined to learn the true nature of the savage Indian soul.

Answer: Harold MacDougal

Professor Harold MacDougal was addicted to narcotics and was a scarily accurate depiction of the narrow minded racism of the time. Among trying to ascertain what made "savages" tick, he did not believe in evolution or extinction. After a particularly nasty scare, Harold decided to return to Yale University. The term Native American (the accurate descriptive) did not get a good foothold until about the mid 20th century. Joe Ochman, who voiced Harold, has also sold his voice to the "Call of Duty" and "Fallout" video game series.

Memorable quote from Harold- "The savage heart cannot be conventionally civilized! I was right all along!"

I say, who had the right to "civilize" native people anyway?
