Of all things, helixophiles collect corkscrews! There is something for everyone! As a result of the fascination, there are thousands of different styles of corkscrews but all have the singular purpose of getting a wine cork out of a bottle. The first corkscrew was invented in 1795.
The name helixophile is taken from the word "helix" which is related to a spiral-like staircase and commonly associated with the double helix of DNA. Of course, -phile is Greek meaning love.
Just in case somebody wants to become a helixophile and start their own collection: One of the biggest collections (2300+ items) has been on sale for more than three years now.
