Subject: Celebrities I Have Known and Met

Posted by: mnbates
Date: Aug 19 06

Suggested by Lemmyrules, IndieQueen, satguru and others. A thread for people to post their stories about meeting famous people. I will start with one of the first celebrities I have met. Ian Hendry, the actor, I was walking down the train from London to Swindon, carrying my suitcase on a trolley when I heard someone say "You know if that had wheels you could pull it along", there wasn't enough room to do this, I turned to give this bloke a few choice words and saw that it was Ian Hendry, so I sat opposite him and we chatted.
He consumed large numbers of gin miniatures in the hour from London to Swindon, but it didn't seem to affect him. He said he was visiting his mother in Bath (I was visiting my father in Swindon). We talked about films, books and families, a very pleasant bloke. I was saddened to hear of his death on Christmas eve, 1984.

Regards,

Tin

Have met Queen Elizabeth II a couple of times, most memorably on her Silver Jubilee celebrations in Sennelager, Germany.

That day I was working as the driver bodyguard to a German Army General.

Not sure if she counts as a celebrity though.

Perhaps better known to many would be a bodybuilder who a few here might have heard of, a certain Mr Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger and quite a few "big" BB names whilst I was active in the German scene(a loooooooooong time ago)

Could name many more, but if you want names, ask my lovely partner...lol (she will not kiss and tell)... now she really has met, lived and worked for some impressive names. !

Personally I have been more impressed by strangers I have chanced upon, not the celebs I have known.

I shook hands with Mr Blobby when I was eight. So exciting

I went to school with Kelly Holmes' half sister. Kelly won gold (finally) in the 800m and 1500m at the last Olympics. Kelly trained near us and occasionally popped into school. She's really nice!

I saw Tane Umaga of the NZ All Blacks at Wellington airport but he was surrounded by kids so I didn't want to go up to him!

My uncle is a politician, I know him pretty well - does that count?

I've met The Chuckle Brothers, Joe Pasquale and The Mighty Boosh after I saw their shows and I saw Dale Winton in a limo when I was coming out of Madame Tussauds (He wasn't waxwork!).

I've met and talked to Kerry Livgren. He was a guitarist and songwriter for the group Kansas. I believe he wrote their biggist hits, such as "Dust in the Wind", "Point of Know Return", etc.
He lives just outside Topeka. I saw him in a restaurant and my son dragged me over and "forced" me to introduce myself. He also spoke at my daughter's high school baccalaureate. At that time he played "Dust in the Wind" on a guitar while another musician played violin and someone else sang. It was awesome!

I have met the band REM and the comedian Richard Lewis. I met REM back in 1986 at a concert they were giving at an Illinois university. I met them after the show and shook hands with them. They are really nice and are a great band! I met Richard Lewis back in 1987 on a Chicago sidewalk while he was walking to his limo. We shook hands and talked for a bit. I also met the newscaster, Walter Jacobson, at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. He was a jerk and I regret meeting that guy! :(

Back in the 80's I met Corey Feldman at Knott's Berry Farm in California. I was working in a souvenier store there and he came walking through. He graciously stopped and signed autographs. It was awesome!

Does Elvis count? He didn't act like a celebrity.....was just one of the boys who liked to have a good time. The public is what did him in, may he rest in peace.

When living in British Columbia we lived next to Michael J. Fox. He was about 2 at the time and my mom actually changed his diaper. I was in school with his brother Stephen, in grade 7 at Watson Elementary School, Chilliwack, B.C.

My son and older daughter are related to the lead singer and his brother, from Crash Test Dummies.

Long time ago met David Jansen, John Wayne. Funniest thing I did was when I was working a reception desk at Desilu Studios function in Los Angeles. Was making out name tags for the guests, I see Gregory Peck approaching and started to make him a name tag. Girl next to me says I think everyone knows who he is, he doesn't need a name tag lol. Barbara Eden came in, didn't try to give her a name tag lol

The only celeb I've met was Leonardo DiCaprio. I fell in love that day! Met him at the airport. I was so star struck. I'm a huge fan of his so you can only imagine.

Sam Elliot, who I met on holidays in Malaysia while having breakfast. Invited hubby and I to sit down with him and he's really nice. (For those who don't know who he is, he was the one riding with Nick Cage towards the end of the movie GhostRider.. he was the older GhostRider)

Michael Shumacher also at Malaysia is an arrogant jerk. His brother wasn't with him so that was a disappointment. (Ex-Ferrari Forumla 1 driver)

Sir Frank Williams, is a soft spoken but very nice man. Met him in Melbourne. (Williams Formula 1 team owner)

Antonio Pizzonia is in my opinion an idiot. I was with the BMW-Williams F1 team doing interviews...the location was set at 4 different bars (bar hopping) and he brought his very pregnant girlfriend then through a fit because people were smoking... This was in Shanghai, China where smoking is still very much okay in bars, restaurants, and many public places. (Williams Formula 1 test driver)

Kevin Costner...had breakfast with him because he was in Taiwan to promote a Warner Village Cinema opening (Hubby designed the cinema.. breakfast was really with Hubby, I tagged along). He's really nice and down to earth. There's just a charisma about him that I can't explain.

Bon Jovi in Taipei and in Singapore. Jon was very nice and friendly.. his bodyguards were not so nice though.

Sebastian Bach... Saw them at Fridays in Taipei having lunch. He's was nice and didn't get upset at all when people went up to ask for autographs while he was eating. I got mine after he was done :D (Lead Singer from band Skid Row)

Jean Claude VanDamme.. Who suprisingly was very nice guy. Was at a restaurant that had shut early (Friends and I were catching up because we hadn't seen each other in a while). We were the last table there when JC and entourage showed up. Got an autograph and picture with him. When we left and asked for the bill, we were told JC had paid our bill for us which I thought was very cool. :)

Okay.. that's it for now, I think...Yes, I've been fortunate to meet many people all whom are very nice.

I worked in my local theatre some years ago, and was fortunate (in most cases) to meet several well known performers. Des O'Connor, Norman Wisdom, Rick Wakeman, Danny La Rue, Barbara Dixon and Brian Poole to name but a few. Most were really nice people, one was a complete pain! Probably not a good idea to elucidate further....

I have actually met Tyra Banks in an airport in Baltimore, Maryland. We were both going on the same flight and we ended up a couple rows between each other. Tyra was wearing a disguise, so no one would reconguise (spelt wrong) her. I knew that she did that on purpose so I just went up to her and said "I know that you disguised yourself on purpose, but I just wanted to say that I am a big fan of yours." and I walked away. Later while the airplane was in the air, Tyra came back to my row and thanked me for the compliment. Then, Tyra gave me four backstage passes to her television show and said that she would see me there. At the show, we small talked after the show and parted ways. I have not seen Tyra since then.

Also, I briefly met Ashley Tisdale on the Suite Life of Zach and Cody set. I was an extra in the scene where Zach and this girl go out to a teen club. I got Ashley's autograph and we talked for a little bit. I have not seen her since then either.

That is all of the stories that I have right now. I am still young, so there might be more to come.

I never met any celebrities personally besides WWE Superstars, but I did get somethings from them. For making Eagle Scout I sent Leonardo DiCaprio and Alison Sweeney letters saying that I made Eagle Scout. Leonardo DiCaprio sent me an autograph photo and Alison Sweeney sent me an autograph photo and a letter.
