Subject: Celebrities I Have Known and Met

Posted by: mnbates

Suggested by Lemmyrules, IndieQueen, satguru and others. A thread for people to post their stories about meeting famous people. I will start with one of the first celebrities I have met. Ian Hendry, the actor, I was walking down the train from London to Swindon, carrying my suitcase on a trolley when I heard someone say "You know if that had wheels you could pull it along", there wasn't enough room to do this, I turned to give this bloke a few choice words and saw that it was Ian Hendry, so I sat opposite him and we chatted.
He consumed large numbers of gin miniatures in the hour from London to Swindon, but it didn't seem to affect him. He said he was visiting his mother in Bath (I was visiting my father in Swindon). We talked about films, books and families, a very pleasant bloke. I was saddened to hear of his death on Christmas eve, 1984.

Regards,

Tin

I've met Raven Symone but I don't consider a celebrity any more. :)

I named my son after former Olympic gold medalist, world record holder (1500 freestyle) Kieren Perkins. We were lucky enough to meet him in person and I got a photo of him holding my son (aged 4 months at the time).I got interviewed for the TV news that night, but was so flustered I never got his autograph!I emailed the company that sponsored him and they promised they would send me an autograph, but my computer blew up and they could not contact me.They were ringing everyone in the phone book and were about to advertise in the paper to find me,but I resent an email when I got my new computer. They printed out a large printed photo of Kieren and my son and Kieren hand signed it with a message and it's now framed in my lounge room.

I watched the late Harry H Corbett in a stage play and afterwards whilst having a drink in the bar he walked in.
He stood apart from everyone so i decided to ask him to sign the programme. He seemed pleased i approached and we spent 20 minutes discussing the play and he asked did i think he could do thos better or that.

Few months later after seeing another play i found myself sharing a table in the theatre resturant with Hollywood sex symbol Carol Baker who was a very nice and pleasant person to talk to.

My son played in the band for a college charity revue. Brian May's daughter took part, and he came to see it. He autographed my son's sheet music - and my son gave the autograph to his girlfriend for a Christmas present. AAARGH! Have I taught him nothing?

Nicolas from the General Hospital soap opera (his "real" name is TYLER CHRISTOPHER) is from my hometown. He was and still is best friends with my cousin. I used to babysit him. When he was married to EVA LONGORIA (she was an actress on the soap Young and the Restless then) he brought her home to our hometown and we all went out bar-hopping. My husband even played pool with Eva!

I went to college with the actress Christine Ebersole. A total airhead, but a very sweet girl, nonetheless.

I was unfortunate enough to be at Heathrow airport standing in line directly behind Robert Beltran (aka Chakotay). I was forced by my friends to have my picture taken with the poor guy. I still count it as one of the most embarrassing moments in my life.

Grace Lee Whitney
George Takei
Nichell Nichols
Majel Barrett
Jimmy Doohan
Michael (I'm so full of myself) Dorn

Marina Sirtis- who proves that you don't have to be an empathic person to play one, just an actress.

Just to remind everyone this thread is for celebrities you actually know, the other is for ones you've just met in passing, they are starting to overlap.

I have a meeting planned this week myself, will report at the weekend if goes as intended.

This will probably mean nothing to anyone outside the UK, but Richard Briers lives just down the road from me, and our paths regularly cross in our village shop. For the 'folkies' amongst you, Martin and Liza Carthy visit our village every year for a Morris dancing day and we chat regularly.

RMG, on the contrary, we here in the US, at least in New York, know very well who Richard Briers is, mostly from reruns of The Good Life, a/k/a Good Neighbors, shown on PBS.

In 1998, my husband and I saw him in "The Chairs," by Ionesco, on Broadway. He was co-starring with Geraldine McEwan, and they both won Tony nominations. He gave an absolutely brilliant performance.

Next time you run into him in the village store, please tell him there's a couple in New York who regard his performance in "The Chairs" as one of their most memorable nights in the theatre.

By hanging around after gigs ,I've managed to meet members of several bands ,including Motorhead (Lemmy has a VERY strong grip ,if you ever shake hands with him) ,Saxon & Gillan . I almost met Steve Harley (another musician) .He was stood outside a hotel in Bristol & I was just walking over to say hello ,when his limo arrived & whisked him away ! C'est la vie .

Martin .

I'd love to say I've just attended a premier with Miley Cyrus (god forbid I should ever have to cross her path, apologies to her billions of fans worldwide), but I have however just spent a very nice afternoon with Jonty Stern from our latest UK edition of Big Brother.

It began when I found our parents knew each other and then messaged him on Facebook, and turned out we had a lot in common and decided to meet up, which we now have. He also met my mother who says he's the most civilised person I've introduced her to (didn't say much about the others really).
Hopefully he didn't find me totally boring and will be in touch again, and I have a photo of us here on my blog for any other BB fans.

I am related to Ashton Kutcher, but the last time I saw him was my grandmother's funeral.

He is my third cousin.
