I have not left the building, just moved to another mansion, as they say in the bible. This is the headline, the articles will follow as always.

Aw, David, so glad you have Victor to keep you company. I never said this before, but I adore cats (all pets, actually), but I could never get one because Mom was allergic (she loves cats… which is why it’s sad she had to give them up due to her asthma and allergies). I don’t really dwell on the fact, my birdie is more than enough for me; I used to have fish when younger, but being blind can’t enjoy them really.

Just be patient with the dating sites; one day it may happen (and, if not, at least you’re socializing. Nobody cqan say you aren’t trying. Plus, as you said, no extra expense wasted in terms of money).

There are certainly plenty of opportunities to learn things online if one has the time (some days I do, and other days…)

I like seeing what’s going on, too, I just got away from this site for a while. It’s kinda pointless to me to keep posting endlessly without replies from anyone else. It feels like I’m either talking to myself or to some brick wall. But, when others post, it’s refreshing. It gives me motivation to keep at it. the message I get is, “you matter.” I know I do, but being social creatures, humans just need confirmation someone is reading.

I learned a while ago the calendar or season doesn’t dictate the weather. That’s why we had 80-degree days in April, then start of May it plunged into the 30s and 40s again (highlighted with winds that felt like Arctic blasts).

Your work sounds great (always fascinating reading). Maybe I don’t come in often, or comment often, but I don’t always have something noteworthy to say.

I try to stay busy even if I don’t have appointments. Keep up what you’re doing; I got away from weight exercises and other stretches, etc.; I really must get into a routine. I’m glad you’re getting there and noticing improvements.

~Jaz

Thanks Jazmee, for whatever reasons it's been a while since I looked here, but three days a week visiting my dad uses a lot of my time now. He's up and down but the main thing is whether he feels OK and is happy each day, which does vary a lot. But we still go out somewhere a couple of times a week and he is still almost his usual self to talk to. It's been the photo season and since last visit here I've pretty much completed my mission for my British map, getting a distance between two points so far from each other I'd need to go a lot further to extend it besides going west which I'll do again next year. I can now relax and tidy the house and garden which has been neglected for months. Nothing on the dating front but that has applied for as long as I can remember now...

Glad you and your dad go out; that’s important.

The sad news is after a year of leukaemia my dad passed away in the first week of September. He felt fine, he was just weak and tired at times, and went in his sleep soon after I went home but had been asleep all day so I only spoke to him the day before on the phone when he was very confused. He was 89 and it had to happen sooner or later and the positive was he reached 88 in good health. No need to add condolences, it's a given here and I know I am surrounded by friends. I am the only close family member left so am now sorting out all his possessions.

My life is back on track, I am the sole surviving direct family member so had to deal with the estate myself, kept me busy for some months but besides selling the house is mainly sewn up now. By January I was doing a long trip every month or two, Devon, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, with Somerset next to get old road signs. Then the man landscaping my garden told me my house was falling down, the rain had basically got into everything and the plaster and roof had rotted away. They did half the work, moved to another job and plan to return on Tuesday. As long as I am not forced to sleep in the garage as he threatened I will cope, I insisted I move the bed whenever they are working near it rather than take it outside and hope I manage it. I am adding two more rooms as the roof and conservatory have come off, so will be greatly improved once they have finished in August. Assuming they do that is.

Good to see you back, David. I don't comment much, but have always followed this thread, with interest :-)

Sorry about your father... and your house. At least the house sounds as though it will be O.K.

Here's hoping that progress on your home is proceeding well. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your "Free Association" thread. It's always one of the first threads I go to, and it's fascinating to see how other people's minds work! Thanks for giving us this thread! Anne

Thanks guys, funnily enough since the free association the general board is now used for chain games as well, but as it wasn't before I put it here. Maybe a good way to bring more people to the blogs as a result. The major work on the house starts on Tuesday. I'll survive whatever they do as long as they let me sleep in the house. I've had it before and can always move the bed to different rooms.

Glad there is help for that poor house (yeah... I'm a bit behind. This doesn't normally happen... but life is crazy sometimes)

Yeah... sleeping in a garage? No way. I wouldn't appreciate that joke or not, threat or not. That's just nasty.

After virtually making certain I could stick in the small bedroom I just discovered the whole house has had the damp spread through and will be moving out for a few months or so at the weekend. That's bad enough but the money it's costing is a lot worse. They were due to put on the new roof tomorrow then they found the walls were collapsing and have to be fixed first. I also hope the cat gets used to the new place easily, I'm hoping as I'll be there he'll be more concerned I'm with him than being somewhere different.

In other news I went to Wolverhampton on Sunday for the first time, it's not nearly as bad as I expected.

On the positive front the cat was more relieved to be out of the car than bothered about his new house, presumably as he was with me. He's happy here, it's quiet and surrounded by fields where he can go walking. I've been busy, the work on the house has been stretched out even longer as nothing will be left of the original building, and will have to wait for the next chapter or two when it happens. In other news anyone in Britain will probably be familiar with the CBBC programme In the Night Garden, which was on about 5.30 and often watched with my father even though we were both well over 50 at the time. He lived near one of their annual venues for the live show, and I saw the sign last week and signed up for a ticket on Monday, especially as it's their last ever tour of Britain. To be honest the set and puppets looked like they had come straight out of an Oxfam shop but both the babies (it was during school time so the older ones couldn't go) and parents enjoyed it, as I did, so worth the visit. You never grow too old to remember your childhood.

I went to Sussex last weekend and should be off to Broadstairs soon for another road sign, covering the cost of North Kent as well which hasn't been done yet. Meanwhile Victor has been chasing every cat who passes as usual, although Freya the tabby who lives round the corner meows back and stands her ground, and he hasn't chased her the last couple of times, but just sat and howled at her, which is an improvement. He's never made an animal friend so far but it may finally happen.

Reminds me of my uncle's cats. They didn't get along at first; the younger one kept wanting to play, while the older wantedd nothing to do with that.

Back again, too busy living to report.

I returned home in December and have been living in one room in the loft ever since. I am still waiting for the council to accept the building plans which were built before we got permission, but they say only one bedroom is a problem. The concrete floor went down downstairs, I turned the heating on a night early as it was cold and the concrete had turned solid, but forgot the pipes were underneath and not solid yet and cracked the whole thing. The build stopped and it cost me thousands to cover the cracks with resin to hold it together. This is still being done as it needs many coats.

Meanwhile because of internet study, I have come back to my master's degree I had to stop in 1985. I switched to counselling which was only one morning a week for three years and fit in with my job, but always wanted to finish it. I am now doing a three part modular MSc in criminology which I can spread out as long as I want and stop at any of the modules with partial qualifications. I plan to do this one which is eight months, see how I do, and if it's reasonable do the second part within the following year.

Victor is happy here, he has to work round the mess and find furniture to sit on away from my bedroom but doesn't know it will all be put back eventually. I have covered all my photo trips now besides one in Bristol for road signs. The last was mid-Wales two weeks ago, and am now hoping to get the train to France for the day soon.

I will come in here more often now I have the time, the course is part time so as long as I keep up with that each week the rest of the time is my own.

Thanks Terraorca, the major step is official permission for what is already built from the council. This is dragging on but we do have provisional permission which may be binding. The insurance man is coming to my late father's house on Tuesday and that claim has to be accepted or I will be in deep whatsit. This is basically where the rules of Buddhism are needed and tested to their limits. If I teach it I have to show I can apply it and these are the probable reasons I am surrounded by chaos and still in the calm eye of the storm. I have been working on this for a long time.

Everything was in the air till recently, and the obvious result was my roof extension was rejected for being too high (built without my knowledge) and is coming down next week to be replaced. Even the kitchen was rejected as they measured it wrongly and needs to be presented again which normally takes three months while nothing can be done to it.

I am just coping with my criminology course, mainly as the first essay arrived before I found our lecture links, but have caught up since then. In two weeks after the next essay is in I will be half way through the certificate course, and if it goes well expect to do the diploma (the other half) next year after a break.

Otherwise my time has been taken up with travelling. I checked the location of every old road sign within 100 miles and then spent a month or so taking photos of them, and ended driving nearly 200 miles to north Yorkshire as I found a spot I could get to in a day which would extend my British map coverage by 20 miles. I woke up late and it was almost dark when I got there but I still took plenty of photos in Filey when I ultimately got there after about an hour of traffic delays heading out of London.

After about 14 months I should be moving back downstairs next week, only the door and skirting boards need to be varnished and a coat of paint over the new plaster, the builder doesn't want me using the lounge the bedroom is off but I'll probably work something out so I can watch the TV there if nothing else. The total time for the removal and return of the roof is up to three months assuming nothing awful happens during the work. At least the cat is happy as he is usually with me and has everything he needs.

Thank you. I've been very busy over the summer and can relax a bit now I've done all my travelling. It will be nice to have an actual room to live in this week rather than the loft, even though for some time it will only be one room.
