Subject: Song you want played at your funeral.

This is a lot like the "What song do you want to die to" post but just a little different.

For me it would be Time of my life by green day

Brahms' "Nänie" for me, that is, if I can't get my first choice (I've written music specifically for my own funeral).

Postcards - again, a woman after my own heart. I refuse to have a viewing - only God shall look down on me. Besides, the preverbial saying is: "Doesn't she look good?" Tell me that when I am alive. Give me flowers while I am alive so I can appreciate their fragrance and their beauty. Cremate me and cast my ashes to the wind along with the ashes of my faithful dogs - in the woods of the Pinelands in my backyard. I do not need a gravestone. Why? I am not there anyway.
Death should be a celebration of life.

There is another hymn that just came to mind:

In the bulb there is a flower, in the seed, an apple tree;
in cocoons a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter, there's a spring that waits
to be
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

- words and music by Natalie Sleeth, 1986

For me?

AC/DC: For those about to rock.

Ironically, I think that would be a great wedding song too. However (I know I digress), if I had my way, that'd be my wedding song in Vegas. Have to add that my parents were married same way in Vegas courthouse (not with that song though) and their marriage lasted 10x as long as your average religious churchy churchy wedding. Food for thought. Serious.

"Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel

"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python

At the wake - if I've earned it: "The Sickbed of Cuchulainn" by The Pogues

Half of all marriages end in divorce, but the other half end in death. Food for thought.

The Dance- Garth Brooks
(That's for the family)
I'd actually like "Dead Flowers" by The Rolling Stones.

Good one!

"When you're sitting back
In your rose pink Cadillac
Making bets on Kentucky Derby Day
I'll be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away."

The song that I would want played at my funeral is "Everything dies" by Type O Negative because its an awesome song and it will tell everyone at my funeral that one day they will die as well. By the way, if you have not heard Type O Negative you should check them out. Their an awesome band.

The only sensible answer so far was from Anton Levey, what does it matter, you're dead and won't hear it anyway, but for the benefit of anyone who cares to see me off I guess "I Did It My Way"would be appropriate.....Mommakat

I've always thought The Dance by Garth Brooks meant a lot to me, so that's what I would like played.

Some people might think that this is a morbid thing to think about, but my 83 year old auntie died last week and it was very hard to think of what to play at her funeral on Tuesday. In the end we came up with 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra (her favourite singer) and 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn, because she talked fondly about times during the war. Her family had a tough time, but the friendships and camaraderie were really important to her. So if you do have any song preferences yourselves, tell someone. Make it easy for them.

I don't know why but, "The wind cries mary" by Jimi Hendrix would be ok.

I thought of an even better one just now:

Sympathy For the Devil - Jane's Addiction

I know that statement will make the purists break out in a mob and march on my house with torches and whatnot. Don't get me wrong, I love the Stones version but the Jane's version? So much more energy and passion than the Stones version. Just flat out rocks.

Actually, shoot, just that whole trifecta from the title album: My Time, Rock N Roll (Lou Reed cover), Sympathy For the Devil.

I think I would probably rise from the grave for the sake of that set-list there. :)
