Probably Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes. At least the ENDING is very sad. The book is so tremendously written, however, and should be read anyone looking for a good book to read. Reply #121. Dec 17 18, 5:54 PM |

I don't know if it's the saddest, because I've read a LOT of books, but the one that comes instantly to mind is The Talisman by Stephen King. Without giving too much away, there's a particular character whose death never fails to have me in tears. One of King's mottos is 'kill your darlings', but boy, sometimes it's harsh! Reply #122. Not the saddest book I've ever read, but the part of 'Anne of Green Gables' in which Matthew dies has me crying every time! Read it first when I was eight, and have re-read it through the past seven decades, and it always elicits the same response. And 'Black Beauty' is one book I'll never re-read because it devastated me when I was 12. Reply #123. Jun 12 19, 3:26 PM |

Sarah's Key is the saddest book I've ever read. Every time the little girl told her story, I was sobbing. Can't think of another book that hit me the same way. Reply #124. Sep 02 19, 6:10 PM |

Not necessarily sad, but the end of "To Kill a Mockingbird" always hits me. Reply #126. Jan 18 23, 10:42 AM |

I am typically an unemotional person so books don't make me cry. Movies don't either, except for one called 'The Pianist'. Reply #127. Jan 26 23, 1:04 PM |
