A Prayer for Owen Meany had me bawling. It's a wonderfully written novel, but very sad to me. Reply #23. Oct 25 09, 9:08 PM |

Zann03 "Me? Sadako, the story of a girl who died of leukemia. She tries to get better by folding a thousand paper cranes, but she dies. Once, a teacher was reading it to my class, and she couldn't finish it because she was sniffing so hard." I found that book very sad, too. We sang a beautiful song about her in my choir and I could never sing because I always choked up. Reply #24. Nov 01 09, 6:07 PM |

As I remember it was called "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" and the author is Eleanor Coerr. Reply #25. Nov 01 09, 6:28 PM |

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Oh my God, I was crying so hard I had to put the book down. Never has a book upset me that much. And now they have made it into a movie. I don't know if I will be able to even watch it. Reply #26. Nov 01 09, 10:07 PM |

One of my friends who usually reads horror stories lent me "The Road" saying that it was the scariest book that he had ever read in his life. I certainly couldn't go and see the film nor the one of "The Boy in Striped Pyjamas". It would be too embarassing as I would be crying nonstop. Reply #27. Nov 07 09, 6:52 PM |

I loved "The Road". Read it twice and I'm anxious to see the movie. Have to agree it is a sad tale. Reply #28. Nov 07 09, 7:07 PM |

It is not a sad book, but I was sobbing when I read a certain section of Clive Barker's "Coldheart Canyon." Barker lost his dog while he wrote it, so he honored his pet by having his character lose his dog, too. The whole scene was so realistic, and it really hit close to home. Reply #29. This is a hard one, seeing as how I'm an avid reader... I guess it would be Sunrise Over Fallujah. The review sounded good, but I had to stop a lot because it was so sad. Jaymee Reply #35. Mar 10 10, 10:41 PM |

I'm a wimp when it comes to books - many of them will have me in tears, but "The Bridges of Madison County" was spectacular in the sobbing it elicited :-) Hated, hated, hated the movie though. Reply #37. Mar 11 10, 5:14 PM |

It would be "Flowers For Algernon". I've read it several times, I've cried each time at the end of the book. It is an excellent read, however. It was made into the movie "Charly", and stars Cliff Robertson. It's very well done and the ending also never fails to give me a good cry. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, give them a shot. They're worth your time. Steve Reply #38. Mar 11 10, 5:45 PM |

Zann, I think you would agree with this. "Martin the Warrior" in the "Redwall" series nearly got me into tears, even though it is fictional! Today I read a picture book called "Little Bear's Grandfather" at school and the whole class including the teacher bursted into tears! Reply #39. Mar 12 10, 2:31 AM |
