I reckon the "Poldark" series of books by Winston Graham would be an excellent read based on the 2 TV series of it I've seen. Sadly I've never got round to reading the books. The best series of books I actually have read was the "Masters of Rome" series by Colleen McCullough. On a lighter note, Lindsay Davis's series of books featuring her Roman detective, Falco, is very enjoyable as is David Wishart's series of books about his wisecracking Roman detective, Marcus Corvinus. Stephen Saylor's roman novels are also very impressive though darker in tone but he knows his stuff. Reply #102. Jul 27 16, 2:51 AM |

I have to agree that Poldark takes some beating. I have seen both series of this and thought the original series was far superior to the second effort. I also have the books and it is one of my favourites. I have to also give a vote to the Herriot books and All Creatures Great and Small, have most of those books also. Reply #103. I would endorse "All Creatures Great and Small" too. It's been some years since I read them but I remember they made me laugh at the time and were very touching also. Reply #104. Jul 27 16, 4:17 AM |
