Well seeing as Harry Potter is the only book I've ever gone and waited in line on the day it came out I think I'd have to go for it.

I also loved the 'Flambards' set by K.M. Peyton

Though, remembering my childhood, I think I'd better add some Enid Blyton in there - particularly Malory Towers and St Clares

I really enjoy Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and the Jean Auel books.

And the JD Robb 'In Death' series.

I'm a Diana Gabaldon fan, so I have to say the Outlander series, though it has its ups and downs.

Hear hear, Kathy.

Love the Dark Tower. I've been a Tower Junkie since 1988. Eat those books up. If you're into it, check out the comic books/graphic novels that have come out lately. They fill in the story between Wizard and Glass and The Gunslinger. So far, AMAZING. Make sure you get the individual comics (even if it costs more) instead of the compilation as there are additional sections in the individual comics than there are in the bound set. At least so far as I have heard - if I am wrong, anyone, please correct me on this.

Great stories. I used to love Lord of the Rings when I was a kid but The Dark Tower just destroys it. So much better storytelling, better character development by FAR. That's the one thing Stephen King has over most other writers is character development. One of the best I've ever read when it comes to that. You know each character as if they were family.

Stephen King: The Dark Tower (also like the way all his other books have connected to the Tower and the way in which his Castle Rock books connect, although, not technically a series.)
Lawrence Block: The Matthew Scudder novels, The Burglar series, the Hitman series, and the Tanner series.
Douglas Adams: The Hitchiker series.
JK Rowling: The Harry Potter series.
Janet Evanovich: The Stephanie Plum series.
James Patterson: The Alex Cross series (not a very good write, but he knows how to make you keep turning the pages).

Yeah, I read a lot.

I really should proofread my posts, especially when I'm claiming an author isn't a good writer, which is what it should say for James Patterson.

The Belgariad and Malloren Series by David Eddings. I've re-read the series 5 times already. Also the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind are good too.

I quite like crime fiction and here are a few of my favourites.
Falco series by Lindsey Davis
Brother Cadfael by Ellis Peters
87th Precinct by Ed McBain
Erast Fandorin by Boris Akunin
Martin Beck by Maj Sjowall & Per Wahloo

Also, although not crime fiction, I must mention George MacDonald Fraser's series of Flashman stories. Yes I know Flashy is a bully, a cad, a coward, a cheat, a racist, a sexist, a snivelling, grovelling, blubbering and downright despicable specimen of man, but by Jove I love him. Absolute crack-up of a series.
