Just came in from watching the eclipse via a pinhole projector. I am outside the path of annularity, but we are getting over 80% partial eclipse here where I live. A little dress rehearsal for the upcoming *total* solar eclipse that passes through here next April 8, 2024, where we will get over 4 minutes of totality here. Reply #521. Oct 14 23, 11:19 AM |

Sorry I have been absent from this thread for so long. I've been so busy and so tired that I just couldn't bring myself to contribute to it. But the pictures from the most recent Iceland volcanic eruption (a rare *rift* eruption) are so impressive I will let them do the talking for me: https://weather.com/news/weather/video/dramatic-volcanic-eruption-lights-up-iceland-sky Reply #522. And another even longer absence from this thread. I really want to get into the gritty details of the important difference between energy sources and energy carriers, but I just haven't had the right inspiration for it yet. But there is another pressing front that I absolutely must get into, and that is the upcoming April 8 total solar eclipse. This one is extremely important to me as I just happen to live deep in the path of totality, which means my trip that day will be to walk outside. I came across a particular video which just caught my fancy: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sOpYoO_SK7o&pp=ygUfYXByaWwgOCAyMDI0IHNvbGFyIGVjbGlwc2UgcGF0aA%3D%3D Reply #523. Mar 07 24, 9:41 AM |

On a totally different note, I remember going to see "The Black Hole" as a kid. It's not a particularly good movie. I think it drags and it is totally out of character for Disney, but I loved the theme: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JI6VPFQw6BU&pp=ygUUdGhlIGJsYWNrIGhvbGUgdGhlbWU%3D Reply #524. Mar 08 24, 9:46 PM |

The Great eclipse did not disappoint where I live. Despite a generally cloudy day, we got a nice break in the clouds starting about 1:30 pm CDT and had a wonderful view of totality. Sorry to all those who didn't get the break in the weather today that I did. Reply #525. Apr 08 24, 3:15 PM |

I was able to see a bit as totality approached, but the clouds came. I did experience the darkness and sudden chill, and have to say that I'm satisfied with what I experienced. Reply #526. Apr 08 24, 4:50 PM |
