Subject: Thank God for Buddy Holly

Posted by: sadwings
Date: May 14 17

This is about everything rock and roll from the 50's to the present, but that's only the beginning. Any poets out there? I have a couple of poems to share before too long. Misunderstood song lyrics are always a lot of fun. Favorite album cover art? Any wild or interesting concert experiences? Prefer Motown to rock? Jazz? Blues? You can share all of these things and much more here. Come one come all to the midnight ball! Let's do this!

Yeah, congratulations! 1000 posts, nice going!
I always loved westerns when I was a kid, but mainly just because they had horses :-). Although when I was about six I used to tell everyone I was going to marry John Wayne.
The Viking likes them for the fighting.

The Fort is on the outskirts of a large town called Wolverhampton, and it's called that because there's no way you're getting in unless you've been invited haha.

You said a naughty word! I'm telling! :-p Yeah, I never thought this blog would have wound up with this many responses when I first started it. Probably half of them are my own!

Yeah, that was a pretty cool jam session we had last week. I can't believe you have all that equipment, bro. Just like a small recording studio. Obviously you can do anything that a legit studio can do, I mean, as far as I know. I'm not exactly an expert on that stuff. Those two tracks we laid down sounded pretty sweet. Can't wait til Vinnie hears that stuff!

You slipped that last post by me there, Jo.

Well, lemme tell ya.....pilgrim! Hee hee! The Duke! He's one of the guys I can do a kind of decent impersonation of, but so can tons of other people. Probably my best impersonation would be of Charles Bronson. I've got that guy nailed down pretty well.

So no entrance into the Fort unless you are invited, ay? What if it was some toughies from a club called The Big Tough Ruffians or The Naughty Troublemakers? Can you imagine a club with names like that, Jo? Hee hee! I bet that would just scare the daylights out of those Hell's Angels over there, ay? Yeah, right! :-p

Here's something you might like, Jo. I love making up names for stuff, especially potential rock band names. I came up with three of them one time all within a fairly short time frame and all in the same room of my apartment. See if you can guess which room that would be. The names are.......Silly Bathroom Experiences.........The Floating Seeds.........and last but not least.........Ker-plink! Ker-plunk!

Jo, my favorite made up band name would probably have to be Stagedork. Imagine a band who never sold any records because their music was so lousy, but yet they sold their concerts out everywhere they went because people loved to see them perform live. They would strut around like they were so cool, but they would trip over stuff and fall down and just totally destroy their equipment and the stage. Pretty good way to get some lauhgs and fun memories, ay? :-p

The Floating Seeds, guffaw! Imagine the group members trying to explain in interviews where they came up with that!

Not much scares an Angel. The Viking has two shirts that sum up tough biker dudes. The first says :

'Never p*** off a biker, you , don't know how many brothers he has'

The second, (my personal favourite), says :

'I am a man of the Norse. I fear nothing but Odin and my wife'

Ha! Love that Norse t-shirt!

I've been meaning to tell you about this one post I did, Jo. Go to the Music Chat threads and go to the second page of thread titles. Right about halfway down there is a thread titled "Best Concert Ever??" click on that and it will be only one page with 12 replies on it. Mine is the very last reply. It was back when my username was "metalmad". I was a regular member for a couple of weeks or so, and I had decided to get my gold membership, then I couldn't get back into FT after I had done that. I just simply wasn't clicking onto the right things and I finally just made myself a new identity. Came to find out that it was a big no-no to have two identities but I quickly explained myself to the moderators and got it straightened out. Anyway, I think it's one of the funniest posts I have ever made. See if you don't get a laugh out of that one! :-p

So you just made all that up, you naughty boy, you? That's some very specific imagination you got yourself!
And I was gonna ask if there really was a town called Hinkydink. Should have known that was too good to be true!

What a great video, Mark. Thanks for posting that. I LOVE Buffalo Springfield, especially "For What It's Worth." I can't believe he called them "The Buffalo Springfield." What a dork. And Neil Young, like Tom Petty, is definitely an acquired taste, but I love them both. I'm still in mourning for my Tom Petty.

Did you know Joni Mitchell wrote the song "Woodstock?" She wasn't invited to Woodstock, mind you (and what a mistake that was -- I'll bet it really hurt her feelings, being so tender-hearted,) so she wrote the song and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young sang it and it exploded. I like her cover of her own song better, though. But, "Deja Vu" is on my list of Perfect Albums. I probably forgot to mention them, but God knows how. I'm sure there's a Mamas and the Papas album that is also perfect, if I think about it. And Janis Joplin has a perfect album, if I recall.

"Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away"

I know that's not the line you were going for, but that's the one I always remember when I think of this song.

You were probably going for this:

"There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down"

Let's find Buffalo Springfield singing all of For What It's Worth" :

Let's find Joni singing "Woodstock" --

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aOGnVKWbwc

"We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to The Garden

Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who l am
But you know life is for learning"

Question for you, Jo - Is wolverhampton on he way to Longleat House? If so, I have been there when going to Longleat. If not, well it was a long time ago. But when I read that name, a little bell sort of jingled in my head.

Just because it's beautiful...

"Can't You See" -- Marshall Tucker Band (Recorded Live 9-10-73, Grand Opera House, Macon, Georgia)

Gonna take a freight train
Down at the station, Lord
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb a mountain
The highest mountain
Jump off, nobody gonna know

Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

I'm gonna find me
A hole in the wall
I'm gonna crawl inside and die
'Cause my lady, now
A mean ol' woman, Lord
Never told me goodbye

Can't you see, oh, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me

I'm gonna buy a ticket, now
As far as I can
Ain't a-never comin' back
Ride me a southbound
All the way to Georgia, now
Till the train, it run out of track

Can't you see, oh, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, Oh, she been doin' to me

Can't you see (Oh, Lord, she's such a crazy kinda lady), Can't you see
What that woman, Oh, she been doin' to me
Can't you see (Lord, I don't believe I can stand to see much longer),
Can't you see
What that woman, Whoa, she been doin' to me

Can't you see (I'm gonna take a freight train)
Can't you see (Down at the station, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (Ain't never comin' back)
Can't you see (Gonna take-a me a southbound)
Can't you see (All the way to Georgia, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (Till the train run out of track)

Thanks, Elle, for Joni Mitchell and Woodstock. I didn't know she wrote it and I had never heard her sing it.

Thanks for the treat!

And because being ignored is really horrible, if you think about it, and even if you don't, and because I can't be "too emotional" while also being "too logical," because that is completely illogical and nuts, and because I'm sorry, but no one gets to threaten me, even on this flat, emotionless screen, not even e-fake people, let's do this one. Bye Kids. Gotta fly.

"Just A Song Before I Go" (Crosby, Stills, & Nash)

Just a song before I go
To whom it may concern
Travelling twice the speed of sound
It's easy to get burned

When the shows were over
We had to get back home
When we opened up the door
I had to be alone

She helps me with my suitcase
She stands before my eyes
Driving me to the airport
And to the friendly skies

Going through security
I held her for so long
She finally looked at me in love
And she was gone

Just a song before I go
A lesson to be learned
Travelling twice the speed of sound
It's easy to get burned

Kev - I had a great trip, I went with a boyfriend at the time, his mother lived in Scotland, so I got to see many things there. His Uncle lived in Reading, England so another place to stay!
So we did a lot of touristy things, plus being welcomed at his Uncle's club -they loved us, especially because of American participation in WWII, They hadn't forgotten.
He went back to Scotland with his mother for a few days (the mother and I had "words" when we went to Windsor castle), so I travelled around for a few days by myself.
A Swiss guy tried to pick me up, when I went to Salisbury,
But it was great there anyway. I travelled on BritRail, which was a great way to go, just get on and get off whenever you wanted too. Remind me to finish this later, you don't want to leave me in Salisbury!

Were you there before '73, Mark? That's when the Bahamas gained independence from Great Britain. I got to visit some of those islands in '83 and '84. Nassau is awesome. Can't imagine what it would be like to actually live there.
