That part about Quint talking about the sharks feeding on men from the sunken U.S.S Indianapolis is true. Secret mission, delivered the bomb. Reply #1141. Mar 16 18, 5:56 PM |

Jaws is one of the best films ever made. I read the book a long time ago, too, and there's some even nastier stuff in there. If I made a list of my all time favourite movies, Jaws would be top five, despite - or perhaps because of - my shark phobia. Iconic. The soundtrack, the lines, the acting, the moments of humour between the gut-wrenching horror, and the beautiful long shots of the ocean, and that massive beast cruising through the water, looking so majestic and wonderful at the same time as it's making you tuck your feet up under your butt in unconscious fear... sheer brilliance. It's crazy late here, so I'll rejoin the party in the morning. My morning, that is. When I'll be returning, LIVE, from the West Midlands, UK! Reply #1144. Mar 16 18, 6:43 PM |

"You're gonna need a bigger boat..." Ad-libbed line. I think all the best lines are ad-libbed. "Hereeeeee's Johnny!" -- ad-libbed "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" -- ad-libbed Whatever Joe Pesci said in "Goodfellas" about "How am I funny? Like a clown funny? Funny ha-ha?" Completely ad-libbed, and it's why everyone around that table looked so horror-struck. Those weren't the lines he was supposed to be saying, and he scared the hell out of everyone. Harrison Ford in "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" pulling out his gun and then shooting the guy with the scimitar? Ad-libbed. He was sick that day, and didn't feel up to a big fight with that guy, so he just shot him instead and it was so funny, they just went with it. I think probably just about everything Robin Williams ever did was ad-libbed, especially in "Good Morning, Vietnam." They just turned him loose and let him fly. And the story Matt Damon told Tom Hanks in "Saving Private Ryan" about his brothers in the barn with the girl, while they both were laughing with tears rolling down their faces -- ad-libbed. It's why they laughed so hard. I think he just made it up on the spot, and it was hilarious. I *think* he and Robin Williams ad-libbed a lot of their dialogue in "Good Will Hunting," too, but that I can't completely remember. If ever there was a movie I would unsee if I could, it would be "Jaws." Talk about being afraid to go back in the water. I read that on the dock at the lake one summer, and I couldn't even wade into the water the rest of the summer. And "The Exorcist." To this day, I can't even hear "Tubular Bells" without breaking into a cold sweat. I glanced up one night, during prime time, and they were showing a preview for the upcoming replay of "The Excorcist" with Linda Blair doing the crabcake walk down the stairs, and I had to cover my eyes and ears because I couldn't find the remote to change it. I've never seen that version, I only read it in the book, which terrified me. Now I know why people were throwing up and passing out in movie theaters when that came out. I saw a much tamer version, and it was terrifying. So many things really happened during the filming of that train wreck. What were they thinking?? I've never made it all the way through "Psycho." Kevin, Sorry, forgot to answer your question. I don't think that I've ever seen "Waterworld." I always get that movie confused with "The Postman." Mark Reply #1149. Mar 16 18, 10:53 PM |

I liked 'Waterworld'. It got slated by the critics so people stomp on it a bit, but I thought it was great, I've watched it several times. I love the character that Costner plays. It's a bit 'Mad Max' on water at times, but I liked 'Mad Max' as well, so no problems there! No spoilers, cos I think you'd enjoy it, too, Mark, but it also has a big message about sustainability and us destroying our planet, and how some humans never learn, and continue to keep trying to destroy it further even after it really has all gone to hell. You can't go wrong with Dennis Hopper as the villain! Reply #1150. Mar 17 18, 1:14 AM |

My favourite Robin Williams movie is 'The Fisher King'. I don't know how much of that he ad-libbed, but it's a fantastic film. Also, 'Dead Poets Society', of course. How he stayed so calm throughout that one is astonishing! That man's mind moved five times faster than your average bear. Reply #1151. Mar 17 18, 2:17 AM |

I enjoyed "Good Will Hunting." I think that he showed us a glimpse of his real paranoid schizophrenic self. He reminded me of my father's favorite comedian, Jonathon Winters. They were both manic schizoids. I mean those descriptions in the nicest possible way. Each, a brilliant comedian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDJjq0Pd0RM Reply #1152. Mar 17 18, 2:39 AM |

OMG, that just had me laughing so hard, especially at the end where the two of them are messing around together. :-) There's an episode of 'Mork and Mindy' where Robin Williams plays himself, and talks very poignantly and candidly about fame and depression, many years ago before people knew he had problems. It's on YouTube in full or clips, it's called 'Mork meets Robin Williams'. It's all the more touching now, after his tragic sideways exit from the world, and it made me cry when I watched it recently. Reply #1153. Mar 17 18, 3:02 AM |

And a Happy St Patrick's Day to St Patrick who was almost certainly, how shall I put this, English - so you really should be wearing red and white. ;D Mind you, England's St George was probably Greek; those old saints got around! Reply #1158. Mar 17 18, 1:04 PM |

No, my Hockey score wasn't that good, Mark. I love Waterworld, and I also love The Postman. I don't care what anyone says, Waterworld is a great film. Anything with crazy Dennis Hopper is great. Anything where Costner has webbed feet and gills is also pretty dang good. And that little girl was tremendous. Reply #1160. Mar 17 18, 3:38 PM |
