It's time to depart from our first visit to South America on a Globetrot Tour and fly somewhere a bit...different. We're off to the seventh largest state in the union: Nevada! Nevada has a very interesting history, much of which involves indigenous people and gold rushes. If you decide not to wander the deserts of this state, you may consider instead focusing your attention on the city of Las Vegas. There's plenty to distract you there. ;) Then again, there's a multitude of interesting sites-- Pony Express National Historic Trail, Great Basin National Park, Lake Tahoe-- and you could always visit Carson City or Reno instead if you wanted to break away from the main drag. Either way, you'll need to stop off at this battle born state if you want to continue the tour. Reply #185. Apr 27 18, 11:05 AM |

But not the Liberace Museum. The former Liberace Museum in Paradise, Nevada, closed in 2010 due to lack of admissions. In 2016, a space called The Liberace Garage opened to display all eight of his private cars but not the other cool stuff -- pianos, costumes, candelabra, awards -- from the museum, which remain in storage. Let's get out of the heat and head to the coast! We're taking a road trip out-of-state and into San Francisco, a contemporary cultural center in Northern California. From the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge to one of the best-known Chinatowns, there's no shortage of directions to go. This city has a history of disasters and progressive social changes; it's home to Lucasfilm and several tech giants; it's got Rice-a-Roni! It has cable cars; it has Telegraph Hill; it has the Giants! Write up a San Francisco treat! ;) Reply #191. May 01 18, 12:23 AM |

I am so far behind! But since I will be having minor surgery in a couple of weeks, followed by two weeks at home, I should have a chance to get caught up. Meanwhile, I am working loooooong hours to be ready to leave things in place for the poor person who has to pick up my daily tasks while I am away from work. Reply #192. May 01 18, 12:34 AM |

I ended up catching back up and now I'm trying to stay on track. Hoping for a bit of time to keep pace this week. I have ideas for Nevada, but nothing for San Fran yet. Reply #193. May 01 18, 12:56 AM |

I know, I know. You booked a flight to Anchorage, but some bad weather has put the kibosh on that plan. But you know what? The Globetrot tour has been to Alaska in the past. You should take the opportunity-- grounded-- to spend a bit more time in San Francisco. In fact, I bet you haven't even visited the Golden Gate Bridge yet. Let's go there. ;) The Golden Gate Bridge is our landmark focus and the eleventh stop on our tour, and your quiz should take a closer look at something inspired by it. An engineering marvel and an eye-catching world site, perhaps it evokes the majesty of gold or the wonder of bridges or the idea of gates that aren't actually gates at all. Maybe your quiz takes us on a trip through San Francisco's landmarks? Or maybe we take a ride on Route 101 (it has Redwoods!)? Reply #198. May 03 18, 1:03 PM |
