Subject: 100 Nouns (1) - COMPLETE

Posted by: trident

Hi all. Now that we have new badges for single questions, it is time for us to start a game for them to help inspire us here in the Lounge. Writing single questions is much faster than quiz writing, so we need lots of prompts...100 perhaps? This is how the game works. I will give two lists, each with 50 items. The first list will contain generic nouns that might be pretty easy to work into a question in many different ways. These would be words like clock, strawberry, or heart. The second list has much more specific words that are likely going to have to be directly about that topic (unless you can find an inventive way to make them about something else). This list would include things like Mount Kilimanjaro, Ulysses S. Grant, and barometric pressure. Some of the entries on this second list will be something you might need to research a little!

Authors must choose a word from each list, one generic and one specific, and write one question about each. Once you claim a word from a list, it is no longer available for other players to claim it. All nouns eventually have to be claimed before the series can end, so you better choose the one you want early! Once you have written your two questions and submitted them to the queue, you are free to choose two more. It might be good manners not to keep choosing too many in a row too quickly, allowing others a chance at the list. Submitting and claiming words will mostly be on the honor system. You must submit the two questions to the queue before claiming any more. I will occasionally be checking the queue to make sure authors are actually submitting questions with their chosen nouns. Happy single questioning!

Last note: After writing and submitting the questions to the queue, we would appreciate it if players could then post in the thread which category each of their questions went to. This is will allow us to verify submissions much quicker!

Is it allowed to pre claim words even if you have not submitted the question in the queue? The way Angikar did!

Just because I was planned to claim copper and catalytic convertor after writing ramayana but I noticed it was pre-claimed by Angikar and even the words in the list were crossed. Whether the rule as stated by Trident says, 'You may claim when you submit the questions in the queue'!

Elai

The rule is that you may claim words once you have submitted the previous questions to the queue. They have to be in the queue, so if your five-question limit is preventing you from submitting more, then you will have to wait.

We are still working out the kinks in the system since it is the first round, but this is a rule that will definitely be enforced in the future.

Regarding Elai's problem, even in Lounge activities, one does claim titles long before they start writing it. I have the questions ready, it's not that I claimed the questions and then went offline for a week.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, angikar. Just make sure that the questions are submitted to the queue before claiming more. It's only fair to everyone. And feel free to claim more words here if you would like. As long as authors have been given a fair chance to see and claim the original ideas (say, the first 24 hours), then I think it is fair that you claim more as we go along. We can always write up more ideas for authors.

My laptop, from where I use FunTrivia, crashed last night. Some 'boot error'. And I was busy reformatting the laptop. That's why I couldn't submit yesterday.

Trident, a small question. For the Group B nouns, do the questions have to be about the words themselves? Or can they be about a topic related to the noun? Cuz my question isn't exactly about anthracite. So I am unsure before submitting. I have already submitted monitor.
