Tasks were posted around noon FT time, on Feb 29, March 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and Apr 1.

It's that time once more: We're looking for some overly dedicated authors who wish to experience race craze with even more fiendish and outlandish tasks while exploring the final depths of quiz-writing on a tight timer.

The rules are just the same as last time - including the option to participate solo, in pairs and in threes. And it starts on February 29, because that's a nice date and it's a Saturday too. Just like last round, it will last 36 days - nine legs of four days each - and you can start each of your tasks at any time during the leg's running time.

Depending on the level of challenge you want to have, there are several signup options:

TEAM (mild): You form a team of two or three authors. One of you must complete one of the two options on each of the nine tasks. Each member can submit a quiz; your best time will count. You will need to have at least three quizzes written yourself (regardless of whether they will count as being the fastest, so a 3-person team won't have to exactly split 3/3/3) at the end to receive finisher credit.

3-person teams can choose to play in "trace" mode, which is a 3-author brace (see under that entry). It's still listed with the regular team setup, since it's only 6 quizzes average per team member, less than the full 9 you need to author with any other mode.

STANDARD (challenging): You are on your own, completing one of the two options of your choice on each task. You can do both if you want, your better time counts.

BRACE (more challenging): You work in a team of two, completing both sides of each task - each of you needs to do one. Your time is the average of the two times.

HARDCORE (nasty): Choices are for wimps. You pick one of the two taskmasters before the game starts and you only do their tasks. No excuses just because the other guy had a less evil idea.

IRONMAN (extreme): You are not happy with just nine quizzes, so you do all eighteen. Your time per leg is the average of your two times.

If you receive a rejection on a quiz, you will get a 30 minute penalty. If you should get an Editor's Choice award, your time will be halved or reduced by one hour, whichever gives the better result. There are also two special bonuses available throughout the game; you will discover them on their respective task. Bonuses or penalties will each apply to the quiz they were earned on.

The worst time you can receive on any quiz actually submitted within the main game time plus a 6 day grace period at the end is 42 hours (even if you take longer). If you miss a leg for any reason, you can thus choose to do it at the end (and take the maximum on that one quiz) instead of having to do them in order and accumulating several high times.

rossian will be this round's Evil Twin Apprentice. As always, you won't really do better with one or the other taskmaster - the theme and difficulty level of each task will be very similar. It's just those details that will make one or the other option more preferable...

Some rules addenda for everyone's benefit:

- You are allowed and encouraged to use and repurpose old templates for the Sprint. You are even allowed to finish up half-done quizzes if they fit your task (lucky!) as long as they had never been submitted before. Do some cleaning up while racking up great scores!
- The two task alternatives' timers are entirely separate. If you are playing in Standard or team mode, you can check out and complete one task, then look at the second and see if you can improve your time. Of course if you check out both at the start and cherry-pick, the second one is unlikely to improve your score as you've already set off both timers.
- Braces and Traces must have different submitters on the two sides. You cannot have the same person submit both quizzes - but, of course, you CAN work together and communicate within your teams/braces. No roadblocks, but of course any tasks that depend on the player (e.g. "Write a quiz that includes your FT name in the title") must match the actual submitter.
- When you've submitted a quiz, please post a note in the respective task thread so I can check and score it, but make sure not to publicly disclose information that could help others identify the task anywhere else. Remember others might not have started!
- Scoring will take place near the end of every 4-day round. Round scores might of course change later in case of rejections or Editor's Choices.

SPECIAL SPRINT IV RULE

To be credited with a finishing time on this Sprint, your entries will have to contain at least one photo quiz (if you have that capability) or one 20 or 25 question quiz (if you don't - you cannot use this option if you have photo quiz privileges). You will also need to have at least one match quiz. Which round you use to fill these requirements is entirely up to you, but you may not wish to wait until the last moment, as it could catch you off guard - also, be aware from the start that the round 9 task *cannot* work with the Match format or 20+ questions and will be very difficult to do as a photo task, so you need to effectively be done with the two specials by round 8.

If a round or bonus asks for a multiple choice quiz, all questions must be multiple choice; a photo quiz meeting this requirement does of course count.

Ironman players or Braces will have to meet these criteria once per taskmaster; it is however legit for a Brace to have both photo quizzes or both match quizzes by the same author (as long as they are for different taskmasters).

Please also note that you need to make the requirement with a quiz that actually counts for your timer, so if you're Standard, submit a photo quiz and then try to improve your time with the second task, you'd need to also do a photo quiz (or redo that option later). If anything like this happens, we'll try to find the best setup for you in terms of total time :)

All mandatory requirements have been met. No adjustment of times was required to accommodate them.

I'll add my heartfelt thanks to Wes and Pam for putting this Sprint together.Definitely a huge round of thanks to Agony and all the other editors who made the activity work so seamlessly.

For me it was a reintroduction to quiz writing after a two-year lay-off. Great to get back into it! (helped by wonderful team-mates)

Mike, one of the reasons I agreed to do this was to get my own quiz writing mojo back. I went from one quiz this year to 15.

The dust has settled and we have some final scores.

First, I have an update to leg 8 - Blowing in the Wind pulled off another heist and improved their time to 0:09 hrs. Sometimes it pays to write both sides!

The final leg wasn't much of a stumbling block any more:

1. Blowing in the Wind 0:58 h
2. kyleisalive 0:59 h
3. Joepetz 1:09 h
4. Two Bears and a Packet of Chips 1:22 h
5. WesleyCrusher 1:59 h
6. rossian 2:06 h
7. LeMoNracers 2:19 h
8. Kankurette 3:00 h
9. malik24 3:21 h
10. Fifiona81 3:15 h
11. The Cataphonics 4:00 h
12. bernie73 5:31 h
13. spanishliz 42:00 h

With that, we have the medal winners:

WesleyCrusher takes bronze with 12:42 hours (average of 1:25 h per quiz).
kyleisalive nabs silver with 10:36 hours (average 1:11 h and that in Ironman mode!)
Joepetz one-ups his Sprint III performance and claims the gold medal in exactly 9:00 hours (that's one hour per quiz, to the minute).

Congratulations to all finishers and many thanks for all these quizzes - there were over 170 of those created for this event!

I couldn't have averaged exactly one hour per quiz again if I tried.

I’m just pleased to have finished in under 24 hours (just).

Huge thanks to Wes and Rossian for putting it all together :)
