If you refer to #54, Nick, you will see that my set is complete, merely awaiting editing of the second and submission of the third. So we CAN go ahead and write another without complicating things? Reply #61. Jul 10 21, 6:02 AM |

Windrush— there would be no complication with writing and submitting a second set but we will count sets one at a time and there won’t be concessions made if sets aren’t completed by the end of the month (when the challenge ends). Calling it out in advance is all fine and well, but it doesn't make a guarantee that they'll be counted unless they're online within the time. As I noted (reply #52) it should be done at your own discretion. I'd recommend getting your first online and then seeing if time permits-- that's something I'm not going to say is in the editors' control. Reply #63. Jul 10 21, 8:40 AM |

Kyle, can the word we use be plural in one crossword but not in another? Such as 'apple' and 'apples'? Reply #68. Jul 11 21, 5:10 AM |

This would be a question for Nick-- what do you say, Nick? Reply #69. Jul 11 21, 8:48 AM |

I'm not Nick (obviously), but in the given example, it would have to be "apples" in all three, as "apple" isn't the required six letters or more length. Reply #70. Jul 11 21, 11:02 AM |

Thanks spanishliz...I know apple is not long enough, but I was really asking about the principle. I can do a work-around if the plural is no good :) Reply #71. Jul 11 21, 3:16 PM |

Here, here! That's what I did. Oddly enough though, I found the large one was easier to create than the small one :) In the meantime, I'm having fun designing my own 15x15 template. I'm going to call it Creedy One and use it again another time. Lots of juicy seven letter words. Reply #74. Jul 11 21, 8:46 PM |

As Spanishliz has explained, the word must be exactly the same. Part of the difficulty is to finf three sets of clues for the one word. Allowing plural and possibly other suffixes would make that criterium too easy. Reply #76. Jul 11 21, 9:15 PM |

Possibly you found the small one more difficult (as do I) Pat, because if you try to put in, say an 8 letter word you immediately have at least 2 blank spaces on that row or column if you don't want a 'disconnect' between areas. It CAN be manipulated, but it takes work to find a small grid with a decent range of word lengths. Reply #77. Jul 11 21, 11:35 PM |

It may be foolish asking this after I've written the crosswords, but what if the common word is actually two words. I've used the name of a fictional person (first name last name) as the common word. It appears in all three crosswords spelled identically but with a different clue each time.. Reply #79. Jul 12 21, 6:29 AM |

" It CAN be manipulated, but it takes work to find a small grid with a decent range of word lengths." I always create my own grids, which is one way of ensuring the word lengths you want. Reply #80. Jul 12 21, 7:38 AM |
