Apparently it's not political correctness. It now won't accept "Daylight" on the side. I'm going to go clear out the PC's memory etc - and try again with Daffodils to see what happens. Reply #41. Jul 08 21, 4:50 AM |

Nope - it isn't taking anything. What's going on with it, Kyle, do you know? Same message all the time, no matter what words/words I put in: An Unexpected Error has Occurred We are unable to continue because an error has occurred. I vaguely recall something similar happening to me some years back. Dunno whether it was a bad package of info between my computer and the FT interface. I eventually deleted the whole crossword (entirely), restarted my computer and started a new crossword from scratch. I have no idea what part of that was the charm, but it worked for me. Reply #43. In case it was a site-wide problem, I've just tried putting those words around the edges of a test template, and they were accepted. Maybe someone who knows more about the inner workings of this sort of thing can make a suggestion? Reply #44. Jul 08 21, 6:58 AM |

It's working again. It was probably some error I did, otherwise others would have the same issue :) Reply #45. Jul 08 21, 7:03 AM |

Here's the first one, though. I did the largest one first. https://www.funtrivia.com/crossword/play.cfm?gid=8411 Reply #46. Jul 08 21, 7:07 AM |

Kyle, don't worry about it - but thank you. I think - but not sure - because I did the 17x17 crossword first, that, when I did the 15x15, I typed in the wrong numbers for the clue. I tried it a couple of times and think that's it. I put in Row 1, Column 17 - instead of Row 1, Column 15. Poor little crossword template. I feel really mean blaming it :( Reply #48. Oh believe me, poor little crossword template has taken a lot more guff than that over the years, Creedy! Very thick skin. :) Reply #49. Jul 08 21, 12:57 PM |

While I'm waiting for my set to go online, do you only want one set from each author, or can I go ahead and start writing another set? Reply #50. Jul 08 21, 4:06 PM |

I'm interested in the answer to #50. I'd assume the latter but we'll have to see. Reply #51. Jul 08 21, 7:05 PM |

There's likely zero harm in a second set, but I would recommend getting one set done at a time. Splitting them out only means the possibility of stretching this challenge longer than the timeline set out. Reply #52. Jul 08 21, 7:12 PM |

Well, as I said, my first set is complete. How many sets do you need for your challenge? If it's lots, we can write them quickly enough. I would hope you might have a full complement of editors back soon to check our submissions. Reply #54. Jul 08 21, 10:46 PM |

To be honest, it's not really a matter of need-- we're not out to meet a quota. It's just a matter of people taking the prompt if they'd like to and challenging themselves in a group setting with unique parameters. You shouldn't feel obligated. As for having the full compliment of editors, unfortunately I can't account for the events happening in our editors' lives and force them to the queues. Sometimes things happen that pull us away, but such are priorities. We can only really ask for patience. As far as I can tell, there are no crosswords in the queue that have waited more than 48 hours (the longest waiting is just over 36 hours by the clock I'm provided)-- and that's not an unreasonable wait. Edit to add: One thing to remind is that all authors (editors included) are subject to the queue. We're not here to rush things out. We get to every submission and when there are significant backlogs-- if they ever come along (which they rarely do since our editors are communicative of absences)-- then we have senior staff who are able to stand in. And sometimes, wait times are longer for different circumstances, for instance when puzzles/quizzes are tagged for specific editors or need to be discussed for categorization or contents. Anything can happen. I might recommend checking our EPF Series-- especially the ones on the queue and crosswords as they go into a bit more detail. Reply #55. Jul 08 21, 10:54 PM |

Lord, I'd go nuts trying to work out a second set with those restrictions on it. Not being able to use General, ie. General is relaxing (said the actress to the bishop), but the other categories require more focus. Reply #56. Jul 08 21, 11:02 PM |

To answer #50 and #51, please complete one entire set before starting your second. This is a challenge with an endpoint and you wouldn't want to be stuck with having to do two large themed CWs in the last week of the challenge. If you do decide to go again, i would advise you to do the most difficult (ie the Large) one first and get it out the way. Reply #60. Jul 10 21, 12:41 AM |
