Subject: 2022 Limited Edition Badgelet

Posted by: WesleyCrusher

So 2021 is over and that pandemic still sticks around. On top of it, there's now a war in Ukraine whose consequences are felt around the world and growing concern about the future in all aspects.

Let's set that aside for a bit and focus on hope, togetherness and a bright, lasting future, as in these two songs - or rather two parts of a song.

"Promise": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da3k2h9dTZM
"We Go On": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWwdgFkfxRg

And just so that we can all focus on positivity, let's use these to inspire our quiz-writing. If you want to be part of the "We Go On" promise on FunTrivia, all you need to do is write a quiz whose title is a direct quote from either of the songs' lyrics. It can be a single word, two words, a whole line, whatever you wish it to be.

There's of course a badgelet to be earned - you can see it here: link https://www.funtrivia.com/challenges.cfm?id=-197

Here's the full lyrics:

PROMISE

Every evening
Brings an ending
Every day becomes a legacy

Every sunset
Leads to morning
With the promise of opportunity

We can reach for the stars we find along the way
Dreaming as we learn to love everyday

Promise You will take my hand
As tomorrow comes
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
If two can be as one
We'll go on

There is music
If you listen
In the rhythm of each breath we take

Destinations
Undiscovered
Revelations from every choice we make

And I know
There are diamonds dancin' in the sky
All we have to do Is open our eyes

Promise
We'll walk side by side
As a new day dawns
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
A new life has begun
The two of us as one
We'll go on

Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun

A new life has begun
When two of us are one
And we live to keep the promise

We'll go on
Ever on
We'll go on

WE GO ON

With the stillness of the night,
There comes a time to understand,
to reach out and touch tomorrow,
Take the future in our hand,

We can see a new horizon,
Built on all that we have done
And our dreams begin another,
Thousand circles 'round the sun,

We go on,
To the joy and through the tears,
We go on,
To discover new frontiers,
Moving on,
With the current of the years,

We go on,
Moving forward, now as one,
Moving on,
With a spirit born to run
Ever on,
With each rising sun,
To a new day,

We go on,

We go on!

Community score: 325 / 325 = COMPLETED with 5h 39 min to spare!

(Bold italic marks "freebie" words)

A few rules:

- Quotes must be full, exact words. You can't do "stand to reach out" (because it's "understand") and "The future is in our hands" won't work because of the extra "is" and the plural.
- You may change punctuation and capitalization and you can work across lines.
- Each title may be used only once for credit, but titles can overlap or you could even use a subset of a title already used.
- You can use any category or quiz format. You could even make a crossword if you want.
- The challenge will be judged like any other title-based challenge, so your title must reasonably fit the quiz. This call is (as always) made by the editor who places your quiz online.

And, because we want to go on together, there's again a community challenge involved in this but this time it's not about categories - it's about fully completing both songs. Repeated lines of course need to be covered only once, but be careful: it's "We'll go on" in the first and "We go on" in the second. That's two different things. Conjunctions, articles and so on are free.

A valid way to cover the first verse of "We Go On" for the community could be

Stillness of the night
There comes a time
Time to understand
Reach out and touch
Touch tomorrow, Take the future
Future in our hand

(The "with the" is not needed).

It's strongly recommended (but not required) that you claim your title before writing just to make sure no one else will use the same title. And please, before you write, check that you're not duplicating something another author is already working on.

The challenge is open until the end of the year - you must make a first submit within 2022. You can of course do more than one title if you wish to help with the community aspect, but there's no tiers on this - you get it for one quiz just the same as for ten.

If you want to work on this as a team, feel free - you can write team quizzes (but each player who wants the badgelet must contribute 10 questions over several quizzes) and you could also, as a group, pick up an entire stanza and then further split it as you wish. (Please reserve no more than four lines at a time for one group.)

Let's go (on)!

An update for a new page to show what is left totally unclaimed, for anyone who is interested. This is based on Wes's last post, but with those subsequently taken removed.

Leads (to)
(to) love
You will
We'll walk

Parenthetical words would be free if the rest is done, so feel free to leave them out if this would make your quiz better!

Revelations is online. Even though my computer's grammar checker tells me that should read Revelations are online.

Catreona, Wes makes the decisions, but I don't think that title qualifies, as it includes other words, and is not just a quotation from the song. Maybe you can retitle it as 'Morning', since that is the name of the song? I know the Anatomy of a Song tells players what they are getting, but maybe a subtitle would help.

Looking good. I should do that on all my Anatomy of a Song quizzes.

The revised variant with a subtitle works, the original would not have qualified.

Two more entries from our cleanup crew :)

Hope I got all badgelets and markoffs right - still feeling some minor aftereffects of the flu, but at least I feel mostly awake again now.

I'll grab "We'll walk". Not a really inspired quiz, but I suppose those people interested in Olympic racewalking might somewhat enjoy it.

Also remember that you can overlap with claimed titles. For the three not yet claimed, here's the context in case a longer version inspires you more - pick whichever part from the line:

Every sunset *Leads* to morning
Dreaming as we learn to *love* everyday
Promise *You will* take my hand

(Now, in the light of the challenge's theme, wouldn't it be kind of fitting if the final quiz that completes the whole thing were simply "Love"?)

Glad you're feeling better, Wes.

I appreciate the tip, looney_tunes. The badgelet was in my mailbox when I logged in this morning.

Wes, that is exactly where I was considering going with the walking if it still needed to be claimed, and how I then spent some time trying to figure out what to do with the other three! Not top of my list right now, but I am trying to have ideas that can be used if we get past Christmas and they are still there.

As an idea for "leads" - customer relations management or electrical wiring? If someone feels competent to write on either of these topics.
