Subject: 2022 Limited Edition Badgelet

Posted by: WesleyCrusher

So 2021 is over and that pandemic still sticks around. On top of it, there's now a war in Ukraine whose consequences are felt around the world and growing concern about the future in all aspects.

Let's set that aside for a bit and focus on hope, togetherness and a bright, lasting future, as in these two songs - or rather two parts of a song.

"Promise": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da3k2h9dTZM
"We Go On": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWwdgFkfxRg

And just so that we can all focus on positivity, let's use these to inspire our quiz-writing. If you want to be part of the "We Go On" promise on FunTrivia, all you need to do is write a quiz whose title is a direct quote from either of the songs' lyrics. It can be a single word, two words, a whole line, whatever you wish it to be.

There's of course a badgelet to be earned - you can see it here: link https://www.funtrivia.com/challenges.cfm?id=-197

Here's the full lyrics:

PROMISE

Every evening
Brings an ending
Every day becomes a legacy

Every sunset
Leads to morning
With the promise of opportunity

We can reach for the stars we find along the way
Dreaming as we learn to love everyday

Promise You will take my hand
As tomorrow comes
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
If two can be as one
We'll go on

There is music
If you listen
In the rhythm of each breath we take

Destinations
Undiscovered
Revelations from every choice we make

And I know
There are diamonds dancin' in the sky
All we have to do Is open our eyes

Promise
We'll walk side by side
As a new day dawns
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
A new life has begun
The two of us as one
We'll go on

Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun

A new life has begun
When two of us are one
And we live to keep the promise

We'll go on
Ever on
We'll go on

WE GO ON

With the stillness of the night,
There comes a time to understand,
to reach out and touch tomorrow,
Take the future in our hand,

We can see a new horizon,
Built on all that we have done
And our dreams begin another,
Thousand circles 'round the sun,

We go on,
To the joy and through the tears,
We go on,
To discover new frontiers,
Moving on,
With the current of the years,

We go on,
Moving forward, now as one,
Moving on,
With a spirit born to run
Ever on,
With each rising sun,
To a new day,

We go on,

We go on!

Community score: 325 / 325 = COMPLETED with 5h 39 min to spare!

(Bold italic marks "freebie" words)

A few rules:

- Quotes must be full, exact words. You can't do "stand to reach out" (because it's "understand") and "The future is in our hands" won't work because of the extra "is" and the plural.
- You may change punctuation and capitalization and you can work across lines.
- Each title may be used only once for credit, but titles can overlap or you could even use a subset of a title already used.
- You can use any category or quiz format. You could even make a crossword if you want.
- The challenge will be judged like any other title-based challenge, so your title must reasonably fit the quiz. This call is (as always) made by the editor who places your quiz online.

And, because we want to go on together, there's again a community challenge involved in this but this time it's not about categories - it's about fully completing both songs. Repeated lines of course need to be covered only once, but be careful: it's "We'll go on" in the first and "We go on" in the second. That's two different things. Conjunctions, articles and so on are free.

A valid way to cover the first verse of "We Go On" for the community could be

Stillness of the night
There comes a time
Time to understand
Reach out and touch
Touch tomorrow, Take the future
Future in our hand

(The "with the" is not needed).

It's strongly recommended (but not required) that you claim your title before writing just to make sure no one else will use the same title. And please, before you write, check that you're not duplicating something another author is already working on.

The challenge is open until the end of the year - you must make a first submit within 2022. You can of course do more than one title if you wish to help with the community aspect, but there's no tiers on this - you get it for one quiz just the same as for ten.

If you want to work on this as a team, feel free - you can write team quizzes (but each player who wants the badgelet must contribute 10 questions over several quizzes) and you could also, as a group, pick up an entire stanza and then further split it as you wish. (Please reserve no more than four lines at a time for one group.)

Let's go (on)!

And of course, it's legit to submit more than one. In fact I fear if we want any chance at the community target, we will likely need some authors working overtime.

May I have 'Born to Run, please?

I submitted a quiz called "With a spirit born to run" for review. I didn't notice the title was already claimed by someone else. I hope this won't be a problem in case my quiz actually goes online and fits the criteria for the badgelet.

It will count (first to use the title gets credit), but you might want to send a message to the original claimer that you accidentally used their title so they can adapt if necessary (e.g. by dropping the "with" from theirs to make it different).

I was the original claimant for some version of 'With a Spirit Born to Run" but have been dragging my heels about writing the quiz. I'm happy for Gispepfu to go ahead with claiming credit for the quiz they have written. I see "Born to Run" is gone now too, so could I perhaps work with Spirit Born to Run?

My submission is now online.

@spanishliz Thanks a lot for your kindness and understanding. I'll be more aware of this kind of things from now on. Take carece.

@spanishliz - yes, you can, as long as you do not exactly duplicate an existing title. Or if you haven't yet started your quiz, maybe you can find something else that would advance the community goal? If you want to do the latter, maybe check for what might be a difficult gap between two existing entries.

"Growing closer" or anything including the "brings an ending" part might be excellent choices for a community-oriented entry.

QuiWriMo approaches. This year it would be great to see this challenge being part of everyone's plans. I haven't got my thoughts clear yet, but I plan to ask authors to specifically inform me if their quiz is part of a community effort - either this one, or Kyle's. So many authors focus on quantity for themselves (not that it is a bad thing to provide the site with quizzes!), and I feel that it is a good time right now to create a sense of working together, not alone.

Oh, I've started on my quiz already, just stalled after a few questions.

I'm a bit confused at present as to which phrases above are in need of an author. I thought it was the ones that are not yet bolded, but as Gispepfu's title isn't (yet) I'm second guessing myself. I'm considering going for something different, as long as I can figure out what phrases are useful :)

I am starting work on "When Two of Us Are One". I think that is available as it is not bold. I can easily pivot to "The Two of Us as One" for the same quiz concept.

My quiz is up to 20 questions, so I will now be planning on using both of those titles!

Wes, if you need "Brings an Ending", I have an idea for a crossword if that works. (Going to write it anyway :) )
