Subject: 2022 Limited Edition Badgelet

Posted by: WesleyCrusher

So 2021 is over and that pandemic still sticks around. On top of it, there's now a war in Ukraine whose consequences are felt around the world and growing concern about the future in all aspects.

Let's set that aside for a bit and focus on hope, togetherness and a bright, lasting future, as in these two songs - or rather two parts of a song.

"Promise": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da3k2h9dTZM
"We Go On": link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWwdgFkfxRg

And just so that we can all focus on positivity, let's use these to inspire our quiz-writing. If you want to be part of the "We Go On" promise on FunTrivia, all you need to do is write a quiz whose title is a direct quote from either of the songs' lyrics. It can be a single word, two words, a whole line, whatever you wish it to be.

There's of course a badgelet to be earned - you can see it here: link https://www.funtrivia.com/challenges.cfm?id=-197

Here's the full lyrics:

PROMISE

Every evening
Brings an ending
Every day becomes a legacy

Every sunset
Leads to morning
With the promise of opportunity

We can reach for the stars we find along the way
Dreaming as we learn to love everyday

Promise You will take my hand
As tomorrow comes
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
If two can be as one
We'll go on

There is music
If you listen
In the rhythm of each breath we take

Destinations
Undiscovered
Revelations from every choice we make

And I know
There are diamonds dancin' in the sky
All we have to do Is open our eyes

Promise
We'll walk side by side
As a new day dawns
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
A new life has begun
The two of us as one
We'll go on

Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun

A new life has begun
When two of us are one
And we live to keep the promise

We'll go on
Ever on
We'll go on

WE GO ON

With the stillness of the night,
There comes a time to understand,
to reach out and touch tomorrow,
Take the future in our hand,

We can see a new horizon,
Built on all that we have done
And our dreams begin another,
Thousand circles 'round the sun,

We go on,
To the joy and through the tears,
We go on,
To discover new frontiers,
Moving on,
With the current of the years,

We go on,
Moving forward, now as one,
Moving on,
With a spirit born to run
Ever on,
With each rising sun,
To a new day,

We go on,

We go on!

Community score: 325 / 325 = COMPLETED with 5h 39 min to spare!

(Bold italic marks "freebie" words)

A few rules:

- Quotes must be full, exact words. You can't do "stand to reach out" (because it's "understand") and "The future is in our hands" won't work because of the extra "is" and the plural.
- You may change punctuation and capitalization and you can work across lines.
- Each title may be used only once for credit, but titles can overlap or you could even use a subset of a title already used.
- You can use any category or quiz format. You could even make a crossword if you want.
- The challenge will be judged like any other title-based challenge, so your title must reasonably fit the quiz. This call is (as always) made by the editor who places your quiz online.

And, because we want to go on together, there's again a community challenge involved in this but this time it's not about categories - it's about fully completing both songs. Repeated lines of course need to be covered only once, but be careful: it's "We'll go on" in the first and "We go on" in the second. That's two different things. Conjunctions, articles and so on are free.

A valid way to cover the first verse of "We Go On" for the community could be

Stillness of the night
There comes a time
Time to understand
Reach out and touch
Touch tomorrow, Take the future
Future in our hand

(The "with the" is not needed).

It's strongly recommended (but not required) that you claim your title before writing just to make sure no one else will use the same title. And please, before you write, check that you're not duplicating something another author is already working on.

The challenge is open until the end of the year - you must make a first submit within 2022. You can of course do more than one title if you wish to help with the community aspect, but there's no tiers on this - you get it for one quiz just the same as for ten.

If you want to work on this as a team, feel free - you can write team quizzes (but each player who wants the badgelet must contribute 10 questions over several quizzes) and you could also, as a group, pick up an entire stanza and then further split it as you wish. (Please reserve no more than four lines at a time for one group.)

Let's go (on)!

Question - I know this is intended to be a 2022 challenge, but since it wasn't set until the middle of March, can we possibly extend it for a month or so into 2023? I am writing my head off (as best I can around real life), but don't see it getting quite done by the end of December.

We can talk about an extension closer to the end. The previous challenge has shown a lot of activity in the last few weeks and extending it early would just push that back.

For now please everyone assume it does end on the original date and schedule your writing accordingly.

I am wondering if there is anyone who has claimed a title who needs to give it up because they know they just won't be able to finish it by the end of the year? Thanks!

Could you bold the title I did, Wes, please.

I might put 'Growing Closer' back up as I can't guarantee I can dig into it quick enough. Would love if someone else had an idea to run with. :)

Rossian puts 5 more words in the bag. 92 to go.

Remember that words like "and" or "to" do not need to be explicitly covered. I'll just mark them off when they're isolated on both sides.

This could particularly help with several lines that make a much better title without the leading "and".

Technical question: Wes, pleas remind me, are the words in bold already taken or not? The phrase "Every evening" grabs me, if vaguely.

I'll take "All That We Have Done". I've got an idea for that title. I just had to make sure I could make a quiz out of it, rather than just a few questions.

Bold is the part that has been successfully completed. You need to pick some non-bold words if you want to contribute to the community goal.

I have an idea for the phrase, "And we live to keep the promise". Promise is already bolded, but the other word are not. Will it still work?

There's a song called "Morning". I could try an anatomy of a song type quiz on that.

I've got an idea for "We can see a new horizon" - will work on it next week.

You can use a partially bolded title (or technically even a fully bolded one) - the only rule is two players can't have the exact same title.

A player could win the badgelet with "A New Day" or even just "New" (both a subset of rossian's recent entry) - but that would of course not do anything for the community goal.
