Iris answered by saying she found it in that little bookshop they found. Every year Iris and Jasper exchange Christmas gifts. The previous year they had given each other gifts in March. This year Iris gave Jasper a 1st edition book he had wanted. This year he didn't have the gift with him, but he thought it was in his car.

Iris' quaint picture-postcard perfect English cottage is named Rosehill Cottage. The name is on the front gate and completely covered with snow the first time Amanda sees it.

Miles, marvelously portrayed by Jack Black, is a film composer and works with Ethan, Amanda's ex-live-in boyfriend. He meets Iris when he comes to the house to pick up Ethan's laptop.
