Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2007, the Aquafresh company paid for an insurance policy worth ten million US dollars to insure the smile of which star?

Answer: America Ferrera

America Ferrera is most famous for her title role in the TV series "Ugly Betty" which began in 2006 and ran until 2010. The insurance policy was taken out when she fronted a campaign, for Aquafresh, to raise money for the "Smiles for Success" charity.

This charity helps fund cosmetic and remedial dentistry for women from poor backgrounds, who have graduated from college and community programs, to help them obtain employment.
2. Which actor, who was nicknamed "Schnozzola", insured his nose with Lloyds of London?

Answer: Jimmy Durante

Durante was famous as a singer and comedian on the stage and radio, before he teamed up with Buster Keaton to go into films. Perhaps his best loved work was his 1969 narration of the animated version of the Christmas special "Frosty the Snowman", which delights children (and adults) every year. His famous nose was insured for $50,000; at the time this was a huge sum.
3. Which lady, who is particularly famous for her physique, insured her breasts for three hundred thousand dollars each, in a policy underwritten by Lloyds of London?

Answer: Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton is one of the most successful country and western singers of all time, and has had over 25 number one singles in the USA alone. She also runs her own Dollywood theme park in her native Tennessee. Her Dollywood Foundation is a charitable trust which helps with educational and job creation projects, particularly in the Appalachia area of the USA.
4. Which of these people insured their facial hair for two hundred thousand pounds sterling?

Answer: Merv Hughes (Australian cricketer)

Merv Hughes played on the Australian international team from 1985 - 94, and was as famous for his huge 'Walrus' mustache as he was for his prowess on the cricket pitch. After his playing career came to an end, he took up a post as one of the selectors for Australia's national team.
5. Which of these four celebrities did NOT insure their legs?

Answer: Bette Davis

Bette Davis actually insured her waistline, in the sum of $28,000, against the possibility she would put on weight. David Beckham has one of the largest celebrity body part insurance policies so far taken out, when he insured his legs for $35million each.
Other stars who have insured their legs over the years include Betty Grable, Mary Hart, Rihanna, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Michael Flatley.
6. In February of 2008, the UK newspaper the "Daily Mirror" ran a story claiming that a very famous man had actually insured his chest hair against loss or damage. He then issued strenuous denials of the story. This celebrity's name is __________ .

Answer: Tom Jones

The article in the "Daily Mirror" claimed that Tom Jones had asked Lloyds of London to underwrite a policy worth almost seven million US dollars. Less than a week later the denials appeared on Tom's own website, and were then reported across the media.

Many people do still believe that he did in fact enquire about the policy, but of course Lloyds will neither confirm nor deny. They did however say that, in 2006, an unnamed person had insured chest hair for an undisclosed sum.
7. Which of these musicians insured their hands for $2million?

Answer: Keith Richards

Founding member of the Rolling Stones Richards was ranked in the top ten of "Rolling Stone" magazine's "Greatest Guitarists of all Time". The Stones were formed in London in 1962, and have since released over seventy albums and ninety singles.
8. Singer Mariah Carey took out a one billion dollar insurance policy. What did it cover?

Answer: Her legs

Perhaps surprisingly, Mariah Carey has insured her legs, but not her voice.
Since her debut in 1990, she has sold more than 150 million records around the world, and is acknowledged as one of the most successful solo singers of all time.
9. In 2009, Lloyds of London insured the tongue of Gennaro Pellicia. He is considered to be one of the best in the world at his job, and his tongue is vital to that job. What does he do?

Answer: Master of Coffee for Costa Coffee

Gennaro Pellicia is the Master of Coffee at Costa. This means that he personally tastes every single batch of raw beans, before they are sent to be roasted and processed.
Over the years Lloyds have also insured the tongues of several wine tasters, and even one nose, that of Chateau owner and master wine taster Ilja Gort, in 2008.
10. Three of these celebrities insured their voices; which of them did NOT do this?

Answer: Tina Turner

Tina Turner has insured her legs, for over three million dollars, but not her voice. Celebrated food critic Egon Ronay once insured his taste buds for $400,000 - this averaged out at over $1000 each.
