Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Dolly Parton was born into a poor family that lived in the mountains of east Tennessee. One of twelve children, she followed her dreams and moved to Nashville to start her music career. Many would say that it was her outgoing personality and positive attitude, as well as her musical talent, that made her successful.

Although no one knows for sure when it started, during the 1970s, Dolly was referred to as the Queen of Country Music. Part of the reason for the title was because she was considered a pioneer for women seeking a career in country music. Over the years her recognition as a part of country music royalty grew as she went on to sale over 160 million albums. She spread the country music genre through several crossover hits, and she was selected for admittance into both the country music and rock and roll halls of fame -sealing her recognition as the Queen.

Her "Dollyisms" led to entire books, like "The Quotable Dolly" and "Pocket Dolly Wisdom" being written. Many of her Dollyisms were about her colorful appearance, flashy attire, and other physical attributes. Her quote about her looks based on a "country girl's" idea of glam" was made during a "CBS News" interview on February 10, 2019. Her humorous quip about it taking a lot of money to look so cheap appeared in a November 2012 article in "Vanity Fair" magazine. In her book "Dream More" and in a BBC interview she was honest about her using Botox and good doctors to keep up her appearance. And, according to an August 2026 article in "The Guardian", she often said that she had doctor bills to prove she was a "self-made" woman.

Dolly said she was really a homebody and the flashy clothes and heavy makeup were partially rooted in her not having nice things in her childhood, and in a desire to create an image that would help her standout in the country music field. She was able to joke about her use of wigs and her large bosom in a way that endeared her to her fans.

But many of her Dollyisms were of a serious nature. Besides the ones in the quiz that Dolly tweeted about perseverance, sharing a smile, surviving life's storms and a healthy sense of self-worth, other Dollyisms include, "...if you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain", and "Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life". These quotes are all attributed to Dolly in an August 25, 2026, article in "The Guardian". The article paid tribute to this worldwide treasure who shared her musical and acting talents, her humor, her wisdom, and her love with the whole world.
