These are TV shows and movies that have the same title but are NOT related. They're not prequels or sequels or based on the same story. That's not to say there aren't some elements they share aside from the title, such as genre or general location.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This TV show debuting in 2018 was a comedy hit for CBS, but the film with this same title is a darker drama involving the Mafia. Both debuted within a year of each other, but are completely unrelated. What is their title?

Answer: The Neighborhood

"Grand Crew" was on NBC while "Family Guy" was a hit for FOX. "Ghosts" on CBS is just about the funniest comedy ever, but it is "The Neighborhood", which debuted in 2018 and bears the same title as the 2017 crime film starring the late Danny Aiello, whose sons my brother and I grew up with.

In the film, a posse of low-level hoods commit their petty crimes, but soon run into serious trouble when their criminal activity crosses the line with a Mafia bigwig. Notably, Maureen McCormick, aka Marcia Marcia Marcia of "The Brady Bunch" fame, plays a major role in the film. On the TV show, Cedric the Entertainer stars, befriending (at first begrudgingly) his new neighbor played by Max Greenfield.
2. The movie was a 1960 comedy with Bob Hope and Lucille Ball (hot on the heels of her iconic television show "I Love Lucy"), and speaking of television, the TV show with this title ran three years longer than Ms. Ball's "I Love Lucy". What's the title?

Answer: The Facts of Life

Bob Hope plays Larry Gilbert, married to Mary played by Ruth Hussey. Lucille Ball is Kitty Weaver married to hubby Jack (Don DeFore). Both couples are growing a bit bored with their respective lives in suburbia, and when circumstances put Hope and Ball together on a vacation in which each other's spouse is absent, they fall in love.

This film, "The Facts of Life" actually received five Oscar nominations including one for Best Screenplay. You take the good with some of these plot lines, and you take the bad, and sometimes you get "The Facts of Life" a TV sitcom that ran nine years from 1979 to 1988, three years longer than "I Love Lucy".

The show focused on a quartet of girls in the Eastland Boarding School and their mentor Mrs. Garrett played by Charlotte Rae.
3. A 2020 TV reality show shares its title with a movie that was a Best Picture nominee at the Oscars (at which time the director had another of his films up for Best Picture). What is the title these two unrelated projects both have?

Answer: The Conversation

The reality show, called "The Conversation", premiered in March 2020 (the exact date I was infected with COVID, by the way) produced by the Zeus News Network. The show depicts real conversation/confrontations between celebrities in the entertainment industry as well as the finance world. One difference the show has is that there aren't hosts in the conventional sense. So, there's no one to intervene and ameliorate tempers when they flare.

It's entirely shot by guys with cameras who I assume are coordinated with the subjects by a producer to meet and just let the tape roll. The movie "The Conversation", directed by Francis Ford Coppola, was nominated for three Academy Awards in 1974 including Best Picture.

Its competition in that category including "The Godfather Part II" which was also directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

It was the latter of those two films that won the top prize.
4. The name of this reality TV show is also the title of a 1999 rom-com that was based on a Buster Keaton silent film. What is this title?

Answer: The Bachelor

The 1999 film "The Bachelor" starred Chris O'Donnell as a bachelor who learns that he must be married by 6:05 pm on his 30th birthday or he will not inherit a single penny of a multi-million dollar fortune left by his grandfather. The problem is, that day and time is tomorrow. He had proposed to his girlfriend (Renee Zellweger) before learning of this stipulation, but his proposal was so off-putting that she left town. So now he has to find a bride in one day. And that's pretty much the plot of the 1925 Buster Keaton film called "Seven Chances".

Now then, the reality show with this title you have surely heard of unless you've been living under a rock-- "The Bachelor" hosted by Chris Harrison which debuted in 2002. On that show, a bachelor has encounters with a couple of dozen single woman who are competing to become his bride. Several discoveries over the course of that show's history have revealed that the show is more structured, scripted and guided television than reality, what with the contestants being taught how to act and fake emotions or to fulfill the role of a villainess that the producers acknowledge the show needs.
5. What is the title of a 2011 film that starred Hilary Swank and is also the title of a FOX TV show set in the medical world?

Answer: The Resident

In the 2011 thriller Hilary Swank is indeed also a medical professional as are the characters of TV's "The Resident". In Ms. Swank's "The Resident" her doctor character moves into a Brooklyn loft following her break-up with a boyfriend, and there at the loft she soon discovers that obsessive landlord has targeted her as the focus of his attention. "The Resident" TV medical drama series debuted in 2018 and was based on a book called "Unforgettable" that examined the bureaucracy of hospitals.

The main protagonist is played by actor Matt Czuchry who co-starred in "The Good Fight", set in the legal world.
6. On the subject of medical shows, which medical film drama starring an actor from "The Lord of The Rings" film series has the same title as an American TV show that was based on a Korean television show?

Answer: The Good Doctor

The TV medical drama "The Good Doctor", starring Freddie Highmore, is based on a Korean TV medical drama that won several awards in its home country. Highmore plays Shaun Murphy, a brilliant surgeon afflicted with autism and Savant syndrome.

"The Good Doctor" was also the title of a 2011 film starring Orlando Bloom who memorably played the Elven archer Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings". In the movie, his character Dr. Martin Blake helps heal an 18-year-old patient from a kidney infection, but then despicably starts interfering with her healing process, undermining it because he fears losing her and wanting to keep her in his life.
7. The 2002 movie with this title is based on a real-life baseball player, while the TV show revolves around the world of the police. (Shhh! Okay there's also a film with the same title that also revolves around the police!) What is this title?

Answer: The Rookie

The 2002 film "The Rookie" starred Dennis Quaid as the real-life high school baseball coach Jim Morris who promised his team that if they made the playoffs he would indeed try out for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the MLB. He impresses the scouts and sure enough as in real life, Jim earns a spot on the team at the ripe "old" age of 35. He had a brief career, lasting for two seasons, ending after his arm problems resurfaced.

In the ABC TV show "The Rookie" starring Nathan Fillion, a man named John Nolan, was also based on a real-life man who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and became a rookie on the police force there while in his 40s. The real police officer's name though was William Norcross.
8. The television version of this title belongs to an American game show that was based on the same-titled British game show, whereas the two films with this title are unrelated to each other and unrelated to the game show. One of the films starred Marlon Brando while the other starred Charlie Sheen. What is the shared tile of these four projects?

Answer: The Chase

While all of those titles are films Marlon Brando starred in, only "The Chase" was a separate movie that Charlie Sheen starred in, and only "The Chase" is also a popular American TV game show that was based on an original British version.

In the American game show, contestants compete against legendary question and answer game show-winning contestants such as the host of "Jeopardy!" Ken Jennings. Other big "Jeopardy!" champions such as James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter were also trivia expert chasers that contestants battled.

In the Brando film "The Chase", director Arthur Penn spins a story of a prison break, and we get to see Brando in a cast that included Jane Fonda, Robert Redford Angie Dickinson and Robert Duvall. The 1994 Charlie Sheen film "The Chase" featured Sheen as a prison escapee (not based on the Brando film, I swear!) who kidnaps a rich girl (Kristy Swanson) and embarks on a long chase as he is pursued by police.
9. This 1965 suspense film that had Bette Davis in the title role. The '90s American sitcom with the same title ran for six seasons, and was called "Alletiders barnepige" in Denmark, "Competente e Descarada" in Portugal, and "Dadiila" in Croatia. What is the name?

Answer: The Nanny

Bette Davis played an English nanny in the last Hammer Film Studios movie that was shot in black-and-white-- "The Nanny" (1965). Her character was in charge of a 10-year-old boy who was released from an institution after being held responsible for killing his little sister...or did he?

In TV's "The Nanny", actress Fran Drescher brought her characteristic nasal Brooklyn New York accent to her character Fran Fine, who after getting dropped by her boyfriend, comes to work for a wealthy British widower and work as nanny to his three children. Ms. Drescher was nominated twice for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Comedy or Musical.
10. There are many foreign television series with this title but an American one ran for seven seasons. While in its first four seasons, every episode title had the same number of words as the number of the season it aired. The film with this same title told of a love triangle in Australia with a real-life husband and wife as two members of that triangle. What is the title?

Answer: The Good Wife

Yes, despite my working on this show, I never realized that on "The Good Wife", all season 1 episode titles were one word: "Stripped", "Threesome", "Bang", "Conjugal" etc.
Likewise, season two episodes included: "Bad Girls", "Breaking Up", "Foreign Affairs", "Getting Off", etc.
Season three episodes included: "Get a Room", "Alienation of Affection", "Pants on Fire", "Gloves Come Off", etc.
Season 4 featured: "Two Girls One Code", "A Defense of Marriage", "Rape: A Modern Perspective", "A More Perfect Union", "Runnin' with the Devil", etc.
But then with season 5 it seems that the episode titles all started heading backwards in word total. The episodes in season 5 are all three letters, the episodes in season 6 are all two letters, and then finally in season 7 they're all one word, with the last being appropriately, "End".

The 1987 film called "The Good Wife" had husband and wife Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward as husband and wife; the two performers had met on the excellent TV mini-series "The Thorn Birds"(1983) a few years before. The film's story itself takes place in 1939.
