Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

In the wonderful world of nature, there are fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We also have invertebrates. Invertebrates have no backbone; these animals include worms, sponges and insects. Mammals can be recognised because they have hair or fur on their bodies.

Quite a few of the animals listed come from the continent of Africa: baboon, hyena, lemur, wildebeest, gazelle, warthog, leopard, gorilla, zebra, hippopotamus, and rhinoceros. The koala can be found in Australia. The koala is a marsupial that carries its babies in a pouch.

The stoat can be found in Great Britain and Ireland. These animals live in a variety of places, including woodlands, grasslands and even in people's gardens. As long as there is good ground cover and plenty to eat, you can sometimes see these animals.

Bats are found in many different places in the world. The bat sleeps most of the day in trees, caves and buildings and hunts at night for food. There are quite a few species of bat. Some will eat fruit, while others will eat moths, crickets, beetles, and mosquitoes. Some species of bats are carnivorous, meaning they will eat frogs, birds, small mammals and fish.

There is not actually a single animal called a panther - the name is given to black-furred members of the cat family, usually a leopard (found in Africa and Asia) or a jaguar (found in South America).

For the incorrect answers, the crocodile is a reptile along with snakes, lizards, turtles, and alligators. The crab belongs to the crustacean class which includes, lobsters, shrimp, and crayfish. The octopus is a mollusc, which includes snails, clams, oysters and squid, while the scorpion is an arachnid. Spiders, mites, and ticks also belong to this group. The last named of the incorrect animals is the beetle. This animal belongs to the insect group. There are lots of insects including bees, butterflies, dragonflies, mosquitoes and Grasshoppers.
