Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
The book starts with a short chapter called "The Boy Who Lived". It describes the proudly "normal" Dursley family, Vernon and Petunia and their precious son Dursley, who live at number four, Privet Drive, somewhere in England. Their guilty secret is that Petunia's sister, Lily, and her husband James, are a witch and wizard.
A mysterious tabby cat is just one of the strange things Mr Dursley sees on his way to work. The cat is actually Professor Minerva McGonagall, who reverts to her human form and meets with the strangely dressed and strange looking Professor Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They discuss the disappearance of the evil Voldemort, and the lack of discretion magical folk have been displaying in celebrating openly in front of non-magical folk. McGonagall mentions shooting stars in Kent, which she blames on Dedalus Diggle (a minor character who appears later in the book).
Voldemort has killed Lily and James but failed in the attempt to kill their baby son Harry, suffering some sort of break of power. The evil wizard has disappeared. Dumbledore tells McGonagall that he plans to leave Harry with his aunt and uncle to keep him away from the fame and attention of the magical community. He tells her that Rubeus Hagrid is bringing him to them. The enormous Hagrid turns up with the child on a flying motorbike which he says he borrowed from young Sirius Black (who plays a major role later in the series - title character of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", convicted and imprisoned for betraying the Potters, despite being Harry's godfather). The boy has a scar like a bolt of lightning on his forehead. Dumbledore leaves him on the Dursleys' doorstep with a letter of introduction.
