Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Head

This is probably the most important part of your body. It contains the brain and is where our thoughts and personality are stored. We can lose almost any body part that we have right now and replace it. We have artificial hearts, transplanted livers, and robotic arms and legs, but you can't replace the brain.
2. Ear

You think that you hear with your ears, and you do, but most of your hearing takes place inside of the things that stick out from the side of your head. There is a tympanic membrane inside your head, like the top of a drum, that picks up vibrations and your brain then changes those vibrations into sound.

The reason that you have the part of your ear that sticks out is to help push the sound into your ear holes and also so you can find the direction of the sound.
3. Eye

The eye is one of the most complicated things in the human body. We use our eyes to see the world around us, but strangely we actually see upside-down. In fact, the eye shows the brain a flipped image of the world and the brain turns it right-side-up. So weird, right?
4. Nose

Smells are the simplest and most direct way that we communicate with the world. Smells go through a part of the brain called the hippocampus. The hippocampus seems to be the main way that we make memories. All of our other senses go through other parts of the brain before reaching the hippocampus and becoming memories.
This is why you will sometimes smell fresh bread, a burning fire, or your mother's perfume and have an instant memory. The nose is the strongest memory organ.
5. Shoulder

Human shoulders are amazing. They let us move our arms around to reach for things in the world. They let us play sports. We can lift our bodies up with them. Also the shoulder joint has the widest range of motion, it can move in more directions, than any other joint in the human body.
6. Mouth

Eating, talking, drinking, laughing...the human mouth can do it all. The human tooth is the hardest part of your body. The bumps on your tongue, called taste buds, let you enjoy chocolate and pizza, and your voice box and lips allow you to speak and communicate with other people. You should go out and celebrate your mouth - have an ice cream with your friends.
7. Arm

The arm is strange when you think about it. Most animals have four legs. Others have two legs and two wings. But humans have arms that are different from their legs. We use our legs and feet for walking, but our arms and hands for eating and using tools.

Wait, I just remembered...there are other animals that have arms and legs. The monkeys and apes. They also will use tools and eat with their arms. But that's all right?...

Oh no...What about kangaroos? They also have arms and legs. Hmmm...can you think of any other animals that have two legs and two arms? Write to me if you think of any and I'll put them in the quiz.
8. Fingers

Our fingers are amazing, and one of the most amazing things about them is that we have opposable thumbs. What does that mean? It means that our thumbs can be opposite to our other fingers which lets us grab things. It means that we are amazing tool makers and we can make things like frying pans, pencils, and even the computer you are taking this test on right now.
9. Knees

The poor human knee. It and the hip are the most replaced joints in the human body. Humans are just one kind of ape species but we are the only ones that walk standing up. This puts so much pressure on our knees that they wear out very quickly. If you want to be healthy, stay slim and do moderate exercise. Your knees will thank you.
10. Toes

No one thinks too much about the toes, but we actually need them to walk. If you lost a toe, or worse yet your big toe, you would find it very hard to walk. Your toes help to balance your body and help you move around when you run, walk, or jump.
