1. Hans, The Dutch Plumber

Answer: Plugged a dike with a tourist

Hans was a pig who lived in Holland and was a plumber. He was always getting in trouble because he came home very wet quite a bit. On one day, Hans saw a big leak in a dike. A dike is a raised area of dirt to keep water from flooding an area. A tourist was standing near the dike with a camera. Hans decided he could stop the leak by putting the tourist himself in the dike! He left the tourist there until he got some sand and fixed it.

He got a medal from the city for his work. Unfortunately, on his way home he fell right into a river and got in trouble again!
2. Pierre, The Paris Policeman

Pierre was a fox who lived in France and worked as a policeman. One day he was helping direct traffic when he saw a robber running away from a store where he had stolen some jewels. Pierre blew his whistle and chased the robber. Pierre chased him all the way into a restaurant where he seemed to have disappeared. Poor Pierre was upset and decided to talk to the chef.

He asked the chef if he could taste the soup that smelled so good. When he reached with his paw into the soup pot, he was surprised to find the robber hiding in the soup!
3. Mario, The Venetian Gondolier

Answer: Rowed melons and a bride to a wedding

Mario was a cat who rowed a gondola (a type of boat) in Italy. He usually carried delicious melons in his gondola and tried to sell them so he could buy a beautiful new boat. One day he was rowing by a house when he saw a pretty princess bride. However, she was crying because she was too big to ride in her friend's boat to her own wedding. Mario was very strong, though, because he lifted melons all the time! He picked up the bride and put her on top of the melons in his boat and rowed her all the way to the wedding.

Her father was so happy he gave Mario the pretty boat he had always wanted.
4. Manuel of Mexico

Answer: Accidentally got a pot for frijoles stuck on his head

Manuel was a jaguar who lived in Mexico. One day his wife asked him to go to the local market place and buy a new pot so she could make delicious frijoles (beans). As Manuel was in the market place, he accidentally broke one pot, stepped into a woman's stew, and spilled a whole meal.

As he was leaving, he bumped into a man carrying a big pile of pots and one fell off the pile and landed on his head where it stuck! He managed to walk home, even though he could not see very good with a pot on his head.

His wife had to break the pot to free him and she served him yucky cold beans for supper.
5. Cucumber, The African Photographer

Answer: Allowed a family of lions to make a movie

Cucumber was a dog who lived in Africa and had a job of taking pictures of wild animals. The only animals he had never photographed were lions because they scared him. One day he went to the plains and took many pictures of zebras until night fell. Cucumber fell sound asleep in his tent.

While he was snoring, a family of lions came by and were curious about Cucumber and his things. They started his movie camera while they played with his banjo and even picked him up like he was a doll. After they left, Cucumber woke up and drove home. Imagine how surprised he was when he turned on his movie camera and saw a whole family of lions! He was no longer afraid of those animals.
6. Ernst, The Swiss Mountain Climber

Answer: Helped a cow down from a steep slope

Ernst was a goat who lived in Switzerland and climbed up and down the mountains. One day Ernst was playing his long horn when a little girl ran up and said her cow had climbed up a steep mountain but didn't know how to climb down. Ernst climbed all the way up and tied a rope around the cow.

He started to lower the cow down when he slipped! At the last minute, he saved both himself and the cow by catching a branch with his axe. He told himself he would never do that act again. However, it was the very next morning when the cow climbed back up and Ernst knew he would always help the little girl and save her cow.

One day he visited Frau Wascherwommen's house and climbed up to the roof. Frau's little boy followed him up there. Once they were there, they could see far away. All of a sudden, a person on the ground yelled and Schmudge saw that the little boy was falling off the roof! Schmudge jumped after him and caught him and they both fell right into a big pile of clean, white laundry.

At first the little boy's mother was very mad about the laundry now being dirty, but when she realized Schmudge had saved her boy she was very, very happy.

One day Lappy's sister was playing with him and she held up branches on her head and pretended she was a reindeer.

She ran and hid behind a hill. Happy chased her and lassoed what he thought was his sister's pretend antlers. Instead he accidentally lassoed a real reindeer! It ran around and around but Happy did not let go. Finally, the reindeer was so tired he stopped and Happy's father was very pleased.

He said Happy could help do this job every year!

However, a pie truck did not get out of the way of the fire truck and a little accident occurred where pies were everywhere. The messy pies were covering the pieman from head to foot! Smokey quickly put out the fire in the apartment then turned his hose and sprayed off the fire truck then he sprayed the pieman until he was clean, too.
