Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you worked an hour and took two 10-minute breaks, how many minutes did you work?

Answer: 40

An hour is 60 minutes. If you took two breaks, that's 20 minutes total. Subtract the 20 minutes from 60 and you'd get 40 minutes total.
2. If you worked an hour and a half, how many minutes did you work?

Answer: 90

Half of 60 minutes is 30 minutes. So combine the one hour of 60 minutes plus the 30 minutes more to make 90 total minutes.
3. How would you find your average hourly pay, if you knew your day's wage and number of hours worked?

Answer: Divide wage by hours

To find an average, you take the total amount divided by the number of periods. So you'd take your total wage and divide it by the number of hours worked. For example, you made $100 for the day and worked five hours, you would make $100/5 = $20 per hour.
4. You worked 300 minutes, took a lunch break, and worked 300 minutes more. How many hours did you actually work?

Answer: 10

Each hour is made up of 60 minutes. 300 minutes divided by 60 minutes would give you five total hours worked before your break. After the break where you didn't work, you worked another five hours. This brings your long work day to 10 hours.
5. Your break was a third of an hour, so how many minutes was your break?

Answer: 20

To find a third of something, you divide the amount by three or multiply it by one-third. Sixty minutes in an hour divided by 3 gives you a 20-minute break period.
6. Forty hours in a week for six weeks is a total of how many hours?

Answer: 240

Forty hours is a common work week for those working five full days. If you did this for six weeks, you would multiply 40 times 6 and get 240 total hours. 240 total hours would be 240 x 60 = 14,400 minutes!
7. Someone worked 180 minutes in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. How many total minutes did they work?

Answer: 300

Each hour is 60 minutes so if you worked two hours in the afternoon, that would be 60 times 2 which equals 120 minutes. Add in the 180 minutes from the morning and you'd get a total of 300 minutes or 5 total hours.
8. If you broke up a 6-hour day into four equal periods, how long would each period last?

Answer: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Mathematically you could divide 6 by 4 and you'd get 1.5 hours. Since each hour is 60 minutes, a half of an hour is 30 minutes. So you'd work 1 hour and 30 minutes. Or you could see it as 1 hour and 30 minutes twice would equal three hours and double that to get to six hours.
9. A shift started at 11:15 a.m. and ended at 5:00 p.m., which was how many total hours?

Answer: 5.75 hours

From 11:15 a.m. to noon, you worked 45 minutes which is 0.75 hours. We get 0.75 by dividing 45 by 60 minutes. Then you worked from noon to 5:00 p.m. which is another five hours. So you did a combined 5.75 hours.
10. Which is longer, 480 minutes or 6 hours?

Answer: 480 minutes

Remember that each hour is 60 minutes, so 480 divided by 6 equals 8 total hours. Obviously, eight hours is more than six hours.
