Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What landlocked European country can be found in AUSTRALIA (hint: it has mountains that are so tall they are called Alps)?

Answer: Austria

A country that is landlocked has no seaport so everyone has to travel by air, rail or plane. AUSTRALIND is a little town, by the sea, south of Perth, in Western AUSTRALIA. ALBANY is also a town south of Perth. A person who comes from AUSTRIA is called an AUSTRIAN.
2. What is the internet domain for AUSTRALIA?

Answer: au

Each country has an identification called an "internet country domain". This identifies the country in which the computer is being used. AU is for AUSTRALIA. AS tells us to what degree for example AS good AS gold or AS bad AS dirt. ART is the expression of what is beautiful, every person can express themselves through ART so each of us can produce beauty.
3. What word found in AUSTRALIA means coming after all others?

Answer: last

LAST means to come after all others. STALE is something that is not fresh. LACE is a net-like ornamental fabric made of threads, by hand or machine. LATER is that which is coming after - but this does not mean it is coming LAST!
4. In the word AUSTRALIA there is a word for an instrument from India. It has strings, it is a _____.

Answer: sitar

A SITAR looks like a guitar with a very long neck and it usually has three strings. All of the other words TRALA, ALTRA and RALST are words I made up.
5. Part of Bethany's music exam was an ______ test which was worth 25% of the mark for theory. What's the word found in AUSTRALIA that we are looking for?

Answer: aural

AURAL means that which is heard. Bethany had to identify differant notes in a piece of music, just by listening to it. Both AURAT and AUTRA are just made up words.
6. Alexis sprinkled a little ____ on her hot chips to bring the flavor out. What's the word found in AUSTRALIA that we are looking for?

Answer: salt

SALT brings out the flavor in food. It has a chemical formula (NaCl) which stands for sodium chloride. LAST is the one that comes after all others, like the LAST person across the finish line in a race - no-one likes to come LAST. SILT, well SILT is dirt that is washed down by a river. The LAST thing to use as SALT is SILT. YUK!
7. The statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus seemed to have an ____. What word found in AUSTRALIA are we looking for here?

Answer: aura

An AURA is a soft light that seems to shine out from within. AURAL has to do with using your ears to hear something, an AURA is seen with your eyes. An ALIAS is using someone else's name, well I do not think that the baby Jesus is using anyone else's name
8. Angela looked up at the sky and saw a man flying an _____-light plane. What word found in AUSTRALIA are we looking for here?

Answer: ultra

ULTRA means extremely, so when we put ULTRA together with plane, we have a little plane with a tiny engine and tiny cockpit that can only carry one person. I dont believe there are any RAT light planes yet and certainly no RAILway planes have been seen, well not by me!
9. When a man who robbed a bank was caught by the police, he did not give his real name instead he gave an _____. What word found in AUSTRALIA are we looking for?

Answer: alias

The ALIAS he gave the police is an assumed name, which was not his real name. STAR is of course what we see in the night sky when there are no clouds. RUST is what happens when something which has iron in it, such as if a pushbike is left out in the rain and the chain goes an orange red color and it cannot be ridden, so if we want to keep riding our pushbikes we must keep them dry otherwise we will be walking.
10. Jake's family decided to trek on a ____ near Perth. What word found in AUSTRALIA is missing?

Answer: trail

Jake's family walked on a trail called The Bibbulum Track. This track is one of the worlds great long distance walking trails. It is nearly 1000km long and stretches from Kalamunda, which is north of the City of Perth, to the historic town of Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. Soldiers who fought in World War One went to Albany to embark on the ships that took them to Gallipoli.
LIT is the past tense of light. RA is the Egyptian sun god. LA is part of the set of diatonic scales DO, RE, ME, FAH, SO, LAH, TE, DO.
