Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. RSA rugby union team

Answer: Springbok

The Springboks is one of the nicknames for the South African national rugby union team. Others include the Boks and Amabokoboko, all connected to the springbok antelope. The nickname used to apply to the South African national cricket team, however they are now known as the Proteas. Springbok is also the call sign for the national carrier South African Airways, as well as being the country's national animal.
2. Hannibal

Answer: Elephant

This Hannibal was the general and statesman of Carthage who commanded their forces against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. He was famous for crossing the Alps with his war elephants in order to attack the Roman Republic directly. This was in 218 BC. With ambushes and setbacks, around half of his army perished during the crossing before the start of his campaign.

The war ended in 204 BC with Carthage's defeat.
3. "Blue's Clues"

Answer: Dog

"Blue's Clues" is an American children's TV series which originally aired in 1996 and ran for six seasons. Blue is the name of the animated blue-spotted dog who leaves clues to help with solving the episode's puzzle. Aimed at pre-schoolers, the host guides the viewers through the puzzle solving. Considerable research went into designing the programme and each episode was tested on a sample of their target audience.
4. Murder

Answer: Crow

This is a collective term for a group of crows. It is one of many names that have been used, among which are mob, clan, brood and hoard. Why murder? Perhaps because the bird is often associated with death and scavenging behaviour. The term is used as a film title (a 1999 US psychological thriller), a 1992 play by Mac Wellman, the name of a couple of music bands as well as a song and an album, and various book titles.
5. "Stray" (PS5)

Answer: Cat

The protagonist in the adventure game called "Stray" is a stray cat. The cat has fallen into a walled city populated by robots and mutant bacteria amongst other things and the player endeavours to help the cat escape with the assistance of B-12, a drone companion. The PS5 is a reference to Play Station 5, one of the platforms this 2022 video game can be played on.
6. Aslan

Answer: Lion

In "The Chronicles of Narnia" fantasy series by C S Lewis, Aslan is a talking lion and major character first appearing in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". 'Aslan' is the Turkish word for 'lion' and there are many Turks who have borne the name as well as, for some reason, Russian footballers.
7. Egyptian god

Answer: Crocodile

The Egyptian god referred to here is Sobek, the god of pharaonic power, fertility and military prowess as well as magical protection. The Nile crocodile is the animal most strongly associated with him and images of Sobek will often contain a crocodilian head, if not more. Sobek has an aggressive personality in tune with his animal patron.

There is also a more benevolent side to him, according to myth.
8. Shakira song

Answer: Wolf

"She Wolf", and its Spanish version "Loba", is song by the Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira. "She Wolf" appears on her eighth studio album of the same name, which was released in 2009. It reached the top ten in a dozen countries. The album "She Wolf" was her third English language album and hit the top of the charts in four countries.
9. Noah's first land seeker

Answer: Raven

The story of Noah's Ark can be found in the Book of Genesis in the Bible. The first bird Noah sent out was a raven, followed seven days later by a dove. Different cultures have versions of the flood story with, for example, the Utnapishtim version in the "Epic of Gilgamesh" poem from ancient Mesopotamia having a number of similarities.
10. Eucalyptus

Answer: Koala

The koala is a herbivore native to Australia. Although it can be found on some trees outside the Eucalyptus genus, it has a preference for just 30 of the 600 species of Eucalyptus with three accounting for 20% of its diet. The leaves provide a low-energy food source and koala sleep for around 20 hours a day as a result, foraging for food during the night.
