Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the prologue, what does Rayford convince Nicolae Carpathia to do?

Answer: To attend the Meeting of the Witnesses

Rayford wants to be in Israel to attend the Meeting of the Witnesses, but as Carpathia's pilot he cannot go without permission from Nicolae. Since Nicolae is aware of Rayford's faith and antagonistic towards the witnesses, the only way Rayford will be able to go is to persuade Nicolae to attend. Nicolae's goal is to convince the attendees that the witnesses are misguided, but Rayford is convinced he will not be able to stand up to the large number of believers. Also, although Nicolae did pardon Buck for at least one crime, he did not do so at Rayford's request. Rayford never asked to carry a weapon, and was never involved in a plot to assassinate the supreme pontiff.
2. Was Amanda White a spy for Carpathia?

Answer: No

Although the Tribulation Force stumbles upon various pieces of evidence that Amanda was reporting their activities back to Nicolae (such as being related to Leon Fortunato and having suspicious encrypted emails on her computer), Hattie revealed that all of this evidence was planted by Nicolae.
3. What occurred when Nicolae tried to take a drink of water after interrupting Dr. Ben-Judah's lecture during the Meeting of the Witnesses?

Answer: The water turned into blood.

All the water held in the hands of nonbelievers turned to blood, while those who were believers held cold water. Nicolae later accused Ben-Judah and his followers of switching his water bottle for a bottle filled with poisoned blood. The dimming of the sun and plague of locusts were both judgments that take place, but neither coincided with Nicolae's drinking the bottle of water.
4. Why does the Global Community (GC) issue an arrest warrant for Buck in this book?

Answer: Murder of a GC guard

Buck was wanted for murdering a GC guard at the Meeting of the Witnesses, a crime of which he wasn't guilty. The guard was a fellow believer shot by other GC employees because he aided Buck. Buck (as of Book 5) has not been accused of treason because the GC wants the public to believe they are secure enough to allow opposing viewpoints to exist.

It was Ken Ritz who stole the helicopter in order to get Tsion Ben-Judah out of Israel after the Meeting of the Witnesses.
5. Who plays the lead role in setting up a global free market for believers, carrying out the ideas Ken Ritz initially outlined?

Answer: Chloe

Chloe is the figure instrumental in implementing the plan Ken Ritz proposed before he died. Having studied at the London School of Economics, Ken realized that an underground market would be necessary when all believers would be forced to remain in hiding because they did not bear the mark of the beast.
6. What complication(s) does Chloe have during her pregnancy?

Answer: Lowered fetal heart rate

Dr. Floyd Charles noticed that the fetal heart rate had slowed down. Concerned about how Chloe and Rayford might react, he misled them about how serious a problem this was. Dr. Charles decided that he needed to get Chloe on oxygen as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, his trip to get oxygen was delayed by a nonbeliever who wanted to find out where Hattie was. However, the doctor did get back in time to administer the oxygen to Chloe. Neither of the other complications was mentioned in the book.
7. Which of the following most closely describes the locusts appearing as the fifth Trumpet Judgment?

Answer: Armored horses with human heads and scorpion tails

Additionally, the locusts had golden crowns on their heads, women's hair, lion's teeth, and wings. They only stung nonbelievers, but their sting was agonizing for the victim. The pain lasts for five months, and becoming a believer does not grant instant relief from the pain. Among countless others, Chaim Rosenweig and Hattie Durham were both stung.
8. Does Chaim Rosenzweig become a believer in this book?

Answer: No

Although Chaim cannot deny the miracles that have been performed during the Tribulation period, he is not willing to become a believer. He does agree to allow his old friend, Tsion Ben-Judah, try to convince him. However, Chaim claims that he was born a Jew and that he is too old to change his ways now. On the other hand, he does realize that Nicolae is not the peaceful, caring friend that Chaim had believed he was.
9. Which Tribulation Force member is not employed by the Global Community at any point during this book?

Answer: Buck Williams

Rayford Steele was still Nicolae's personal pilot at the start of the book. However, not long into the book, Mac reveals to Rayford that Nicolae is onto him, and so Rayford flees from the country immediately. David Hassid is one of the head security people within GC.

He is responsible for computer security and purchasing, both of which he uses to benefit the Tribulation Force. Mac McCullum took over Rayford's job as a GC pilot.
10. From what does this book get its title ("Apollyon")?

Answer: The demon leading the plague of locusts

Apollyon means 'destroyer' in Greek. Its Hebrew counterpart (also mentioned in the book) is Abaddon. Apollyon is also a character in John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress."
