Like it or hate it, John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" is one of those books that gets under your skin; it's hard not to be affected by it.
This quiz only covers the beginning of the story where young Tom Joad, recently released from prison, arrives home near Salisaw, Oklahoma, to find his family farm abandoned. His family is at his Uncle John's farm, preparing to leave for California and the promise of fertile fields and good-paying jobs. Despite having to break his parole by leaving the state, he decides to go with them and brings along family acquaintance Jim Casy, a former preacher turned wandering philosopher.
The Joad family members who start the trip with Tom Joad and Jim Casy are Pa and Ma, Grampa and Granma, Noah (Tom's older, slightly abnormal brother), Rose of Sharon and Connie Rivers (Tom's pregnant older sister and her husband), Al, Ruthie, and Winfield (Tom's younger siblings), and Uncle John. Despite being eager to get to the land where he can eat grapes every day, Grampa changes his mind at the last minute, and the family is forced to drug him to get him in the vehicle. One of the family dogs is also piled into the vehicle, a Hudson sedan converted into a truck for the trip.
Incidentally, the wrong answers were characters in another great American road novel: Jack Kerouac's "On the Road".
