Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I live with my wife Wilma, my daughter Pebbles, and my pet Dino. Who played me?

Answer: John Goodman

John Goodman, who played Dan Conner in "Roseanne" (1988-1997) and "The Conners" (2018-2025), played Fred Flintstone.

Although "The Flintstones" didn't really teach anybody anything about the Stone Age - people and dinosaurs lived at the same time? - the show was relatable to working class families who faced many of the same issues that Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty faced. Created by Hanna-Barbera Productions, and broadcast from 1960-1966, it was a "must see".

The live-action move, "The Flintstones" (1994), starred John Goodman as Fred Flintstone. In this movie Fred loaned his best friend Barney money in order to adopt a baby, and in return Barney switched his aptitude test with Fred's so that Fred could gain a higher position at Slate & Co. Poor Fred, however, was way out of his league when he became a pawn in one of his boss's schemes.
2. I have learned to love spinach. It helped me save my girlfriend Olive Oyl and my baby Swee'Pea. Who played me?

Answer: Robin Williams

Robin Williams, known for "Mork and Mindy" (1978-1982), "Dead Poets Society" (1989), and "Good Morning Vietnam" (1986), played Popeye, the Sailor Man.

Popeye the Sailor Man first appeared in 1929 in a comic strip called "Thimble Theatre", and quickly became one of its most popular characters. During this time its creator, Elzie Crisler Segar, began to introduce new characters like Olive Oyl and Swee'Pea. The comic became an cartoon short for Paramount Pictures in 1933, and Popeye went on to appear in all sorts of media, including video games and even advertisements.

In the movie "Popeye" (1980) the sailor was looking for his father, Poopdeck Pappy, in the town of Sweethaven, where he had rented a room at Olive Oyl's family's boarding house. At the time Olive was unhappily engaged to Bluto, who was the town bully. After they found Swee'Pea, a baby boy who has been abandoned, Popeye and Olive gradually fell in love, but, before they could find happiness together, Popeye must defeat the bully Bluto. He did this with the help of his father, who revealed that eating spinach gives Popeye superhuman power.
3. I'm Russian, and I can't stand that Moose or that Squirrel. Who played me?

Answer: Rene Russo

Rene Russo, known for "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1999) and "Nightcrawler" (2014), played Natasha in "Rocky and Bullwinkle".

"The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends" was a television cartoon that aired from 1959-1964. It featured Rocky and Bullwinkle, a flying squirrel and moose, who went on different adventures together. Natasha Fatale was one of the Russians who spied on them for Pottsylvania, taking orders from its leader. The crimes she tried to commit were typically thwarted by Rocky and Bullwinkle.

In "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" (2000), Natasha and her sidekick, Boris, have escaped the cartoon and are living in the real world. They created a television network called RBTV, that tried to control viewers' minds to get them to vote for Fearless Leader, who came with them from Pottsylvania. With the help of FBI agent Karen Sympathy, Bullwinkle used the villains' own mind control machine to send them back to their cartoon. The people were then convinced to vote for who they wanted to lead them.
4. With the help of my niece Penny and a majority of my body parts, I hope to save the world. Who played me?

Answer: Matthew Broderick

Matthew Broderick, known for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986) and "Glory" (1989), played Inspector Gadget.

If it hadn't been for Inspector Gadget's smart niece, Penny, he might have never solved any of his cases. In the show "Inspector Gadget" (1983), he was portrayed as not being a very bright detective, in spite of the fact that he had all these neat bionic gadgets built into his body. His cases were ultimately solved by Penny and her dog, Brain. Can they keep the evil organization M.A.D. from taking over the world and stop Dr. Claw? Maybe! The best thing Inspector Gadget did, however, was deliver a public service announcement advising kids how to stay safe.

The 1999 "Inspector Gadget" film filled fans in on some of Inspector Gadget's backstory. He had been an inept security guard who was badly injured in an explosion. A robotics surgeon, Brenda Bradford, saved his life and restored his body with new technology. With a new name, Inspector Gadget, he was still bumbling, but had an important mission. With the help of Penny and Brain he looked for the evil Dr. Claw, who was behind the explosion which had also killed Brenda's father.
5. My next door neighbor is Fred, and I have a son who is really strong. Who played me?

Answer: Rick Moranis

Rick Moranis, known for "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" (1989), played Barney Rubble.

In "The Flintstones" (1960-1966) cartoon, created by Hanna-Barbera, Barney was Fred's best friend and sidekick. They did everything together - it was a good thing that their wives were best friends too! It is believed that Hanna admired "The Honeymooners" (1955-56), and modeled some of the situations in the cartoons after the show. A rather odd topic for the time, especially in an animated series, it was uncovered that Barney and Betty had not been able to have children. After finding Bamm-Bamm on their doorstep, they decided they wanted to adopt him.

The movie, "The Flintstones" (1994), basically followed that story line, but it was just part of the plot. Fred loaned Barney and Betty the money they needed for the court case, but Barney's favor in return put Fred way over his head at work. Together the friends uncovered the boss's embezzlement scheme, and Fred was cleared of any wrongdoing, deciding that his old job suited him just fine. He asked for it back and also for some additional benefits for the workers.
6. I am the richest kid around. Who played me?

Answer: Macauley Culkin

Macauley Culkin, star of "Home Alone" (1990) and "Home Alone 2" (1992), played Richie Rich.

"Richie Rich" (1980-1984) was an animated show that was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. As the wealthiest boy in the world, Richie had fantastic adventures and opportunities. He traveled around the world with his parents and butler, and had a friend who invented gadgets. As he traveled around the world, Richie tried to help people along the way and assist his father as they outsmarted villains who tried to take the family fortune.

The movie, "Richie Rich" (1994), had much the same plot except for one thing - Richie did not have any friends. When his parents were kidnapped by Mr. Rich's own company's financial officer, however, Richie enlisted the help of some of the kids in the neighborhood. They worked together with his butler and inventor friend to help Richie save his family. In the end, Richie was no longer lonely.
7. I love Natasha, but I can't stand Rocky and Bullwinkle. Who played me?

Answer: Jason Alexander

Jason Alexander, who played George Costanza on "Seinfeld" (1989-1998), was the Russian villain Boris Badenov.

"The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends" (1959-1964) typically paired Natasha with her partner in spying, Boris Badenov. Boris was a master of disguise, and Rocky and Bullwinkle never seemed to recognize him. But Boris' bad deeds were usually thwarted by the pair, and he hated them. He was apparently not a very good spy, as he couldn't even successfully murder them, in spite of all his weapons and bombs!

In "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" (2000) showed Rocky and Bullwinkle, along with Boris and Natasha, really down on their luck after the end of their successful show. In Pottsylvania the citizens of the country have gained their freedom, but Fearless Leader had a plan that involved his minions digging all the way to Los Angeles. There they become humans, and were ordered once again to destroy Rocky and Bullwinkle after they also escaped the cartoon world. Boris had a new weapon - the CDI, or Computer Degenerating Imagery - which Bullwinkle used to send the three evildoers back to the cartoon world.
8. I am one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I seem to squint a lot and like to walk my dog. Who played me?

Answer: Leslie Nielsen

Leslie Nielsen, star of the "Naked Gun" movies (1988-1004), played Mr. Magoo, of course!

The original cartoon, "Mr. Magoo", which premiered in 1949, was voiced by Jim Backus. Mr. Magoo was a kindly, elderly, nearsighted man, who wouldn't wear glasses. Instead, he squinted a lot - his eyes were never revealed - as he continually got himself into tight situations, dealing with them by saying, "Oh, Magoo, you've done it again!" Somehow he always managed to overcome the predicament, never really knowing what has happened because he couldn't see it.

Leslie Nielsen played Mr. Magoo in the 1997 movie of the same name. In the movie, Mr. Magoo accidentally came into the possession of a ruby, The Star of Kurdistan, although he had no knowledge of the incident. Agents believed Mr. Magoo was the thief, however, the real jewel thieves stole the ruby back. After his nephew Waldo made Mr. Magoo aware of the ruby's value, they worked together to get the ruby back and returned it to the museum.
9. I love my husband Barney and our son Bamm-Bamm. Who played me?

Answer: Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie O'Donnell, who hosted the "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" (1996-2002), played Betty Rubble in "The Flintstones".

"The Flintstones" (1960-1966) featured best friends and neighbors Fred and Wilma and Barney and Betty. Betty typically followed Wilma's lead, and the two spent a lot of time talking, shopping, doing charitable work, or trying to get their husbands out of some sort of troubling situation. Betty was also a stay at home wife and mother who was totally devoted to her family.

In "The Flintstones" (1994) Betty was able to finally become a mother after Fred and Wilma loaned her and Barney some money to adopt Bamm-Bamm, who became close friends with Fred's daughter, Pebbles. When Fred took over a new job at Slate & Co., his new boss, Cliff, who was up to no good, ordered him to fire Barney, which he did. Cliff had a plan to steal money from the company and framed Fred for the theft. Betty and Wilma went to Fred's office to find the Dictabird, who overheard Cliff's plan, so it can clear Fred's name. But Cliff has kidnapped Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. Can Barney, Wilma, and Betty save Fred and the kids?
10. One of my new best friends is a Rabbit and his beautiful wife. Who played me?

Answer: Bob Hoskins

Bob Hoskins, who starred in "The Long Good Friday" (1980) and "Mona Lisa" (1986), played alongside Jessica and Roger Rabbit.

Roger Rabbit first appeared in a novel, "Who Censored Roger Rabbit" (1981). In the story Roger was in a comic strip called "Baby Herman", but in a secondary role. He hired Eddie Valiant to investigate why he had not been given his own strip as promised, but Eddie hated Toons. Will he even try to help Roger?

In "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988) Detective Eddie Valiant believed that a Toon had been responsible for his brother's death. He took a job, however, to investigate a rumor that a Toon, Jessica Rabbit, was having an affair with Marvin Acme, who owned Acme Corporation and Toontown. When Marvin was murdered, Roger became the main suspect; in spite of his feelings, Eddie helped uncover the real murderer and also discovered what had happened to his brother.
