2. "The lights are much brighter there; you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go...." Where was British songbird Petula Clark heading in her 1964 hit single?

Answer: Downtown

Penned by British television and theatre composer Tony Hatch, 'Downtown' was an instant international hit for Petula Clark reaching the number 1 spot on the US Billboard Top 100 and the number 2 position in the UK singles chart very shortly after its release in November 1964. Petula Clark has enjoyed a highly successful singing career spanning seven decades and which has featured songs such as 'Sailor' and 'Don't Sleep in the Subway' although, surprisingly, most of her success has come from releases on the European mainland and not in either the UK or the US.

3. "My _____ lies over the ocean". Fill in the blank lyric.

Answer: Bonnie

During the 1880s, "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean" was a popular Scottish folk song for close harmony groups, such as college campuses and scout troops. It's even considered a nursery rhyme, and possibly good for long school bus trips.

"My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
My Bonnie lies over the sea,
My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
O bring back my Bonnie to me.

Chorus:
Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me, to me:
Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me.

O blow ye winds over the ocean,
O blow ye winds over the sea.
O blow ye winds over the ocean,
And bring back my Bonnie to me.

Repeat Chorus

4. Only four artists have managed to have at least one Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hit in the 1980s, the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s. Which of these four artists has NOT accomplished this feat? (He's not the "boss" of these other three!)

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

A recording artist has to have had a long period of success to have achieved this - or at least, gotten lucky four times. Michael Jackson and Madonna have had several top 40 hits over the four decades between 1980 and 2019; Jackson can also claim a streak back to the 1970s. "Weird Al", on the other hand, has had only four top 40 charting hits on the Billboard Hot 100 to date, but they happen to have fallen one in each decade: "Eat It", "Smells Like Nirvana", "White and Nerdy", and "Word Crimes". U2 can also claim this honor. Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen, though he has had a long successful career, cannot make this claim.

5. According to the words of the song, one should be wary of "Cigarettes, whiskey and _____ _____ _____." What words fill in those blanks?

Answer: wild, wild women

Tim Spencer wrote "Cigarettes, Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women" in 1947; it was recorded by the Sons of the Pioneers. It is an admonitory song identifying evils which will "drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane." Dissipation is thereby condemned. The song was covered by Buck Owens, Red Ingle and the Natural Seven, the Wilburn Brothers, the Avett Brothers, Jim Croce, and Ray Stevens, among others. Peter Sellers sang it on "The Muppet Show" dressed as a Salvation Army preacher. Frank Sinatra, who did not record the song, was nonetheless buried with a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey, a pack of Camel cigarettes and a Zippo lighter.
