Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. All right, we'll begin by mixing together my two favorite things, music and movies: there were two bands, among others, who put up a large sum of money to help make the 1975 movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Who were they?

Answer: Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd

Accoording to Michael Palin (my personal favorite Python) in the 2001 commentary on the "special edition" DVD, Zeppelin and Floyd were trying to out-run a government agency, similar to America's IRS, and put up an estimate of 100,000 pounds.

Rebels against the system!
2. Who did Steven Tyler, lead singer of Aerosmith, write the song "Sweet Emotion" for, at the time, in 1973?

Answer: Joe Perry's then girlfriend

According to their 2000 biography, he wrote it for Joe Perry's then girlfriend because he said he just didn't like her.
3. Can you name this song? "I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen/ I saw Lon Chaney Jr. walking with the Queen"

Answer: Werewolves of London

Ah yes, a classic by the great Warren Zevon. Another one of his hits you may recognize is "My Baby is a Basket Case".
4. Which one of these songs isn't a hit by Elton John?

Answer: Waterloo Sunset

All but "Waterloo Sunset" are on the greatest hits compilation album 'Elton John's Greatest Hits 1971-2001'. "Waterloo Sunset" was done by the Kinks, of "Lola" and "You Really Got Me" fame.
5. Who was the original drummer for the Beatles?

Answer: Pete Best

Pete Best was replaced by Ringo, as he didn't have the thing the "clicked" with the rest of the band's personalities, as well as producer George Martin thinking that Best wasn't an adequate drummer. Mikey Dolenz is of the Monkees fame and Jim Morrison is from the Doors.
6. Now for something a bit more current... which member of Fall Out Boy is also the lyricist for the band?

Answer: Pete Wentz

Patrick is lead vocals/gitar... Joe plays guitar, Andy, drums, and Pete plays bass as well as writes songs.
7. Okay, staying with the current theme. What song did hip-hop songstress Rhianna sample in her hit "SOS"?

Answer: Tainted Love

"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell has not only been sampled various times, but also covered in 2000's hit comedy parody "Not Another Teen Movie" by Marilyn Manson. "Sweet Dreams" was done by Eurythmics, "Help" by the Beatles, and "Rapture" by Blondie.
8. Going back to old school... what record company did Elvis start with?

Answer: Sun Records

He went in to record two songs for his mother for her birthday, and was signed after jamming out to a different song.
9. Did Don Mclean sing about the death of his father in the song "American Pie"?

Answer: no

He sang about the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper in a 1959 plane crash. Also, the lyric "and while the king was looking down/ the jester stole his thorny crown" heve often been slanted as a reference to Bob Dylan taking the spotlight(crown) from Elvis.
10. What was the name of Green Day's first album?

Answer: 39/Smooth

From 1990. Rereleased as "1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours"
