Pink Floyd Trivia Questions

1. The name of the album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" was taken from the title of chapter seven of the book "The Wind in the Willows". Who was the Scottish author of the book whose first name is the same as Elton John's real middle name?

From Quiz
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Answer: Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame (1859 - 1932) was also the author of "The Reluctant Dragon". Scottish Arthur Conan Doyle is the creator of Sherlock Holmes. Mark Twain and Ken Kesey are both American authors. Elton John's real name was Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

2. What song was the band talking about when they wanted you to GLOW ON YOU WILD CRYSTAL STONE?

From Quiz Pink Floyd In Other Words

Answer: Shine On You Crazy Diamond

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was released on Pink Floyd's 1975 album, "Wish You Were Here". The song was a tribute to Syd Barrett, who had been the group's lead guitarist and songwriter. Barrett was dismissed from the group in 1968 due to insane behavior from drug use. During the band's recording of this song, Barrett attended the recording session.

3. From the opening track, "In the Flesh?": "So ya thought ya might like to go to the show To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow Tell me is something eluding you, _________?" What is the missing word?

From Quiz The Wall -- Missing Lyrics

Answer: Sunshine

The full stanza is: "Tell me is something eluding you sunshine Is this not what you expected to see If you wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise" The album opens with a truly memorable chord sequence to this song, which was originally to be called "The Show". The audience is introduced to the character of the rock star, Pink. The background sound effects of the dive bomber and then the baby crying subtly introduce the idea that Pink's father was killed in the war, leaving his mother alone to raise him. Walters has said that the writing of "The Wall" was inspired by an incident when he spat at a fan trying to climb the fence separating the crowd from the band during the 1977 "In the Flesh?" tour, hence the eventual title of the opening track. Track 21 on the album reprises the song, although now it is called "In the Flesh" (without the "?". This time, the same opening two lines are followed by: "I've got some bad news for you, sunshine, Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel, And they sent us along as a surrogate band, And we're going to find out where you fans really stand."

4. "We don't need no education We don't need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teacher leave them kids alone Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone!" What hit are these lyrics from?

From Quiz Pink Floyd: Guess The Song!

Answer: Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2

"Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2" is one of Pink Floyd's most famous songs, as well as their only number one hit, and my personal favorite. The song, about children revolting against the oppression of their teachers, was banned in South American countries due to its theme of protesting the educational system. The song was inspired by experiences at the Cambridge School For Boys. It appears on the double-album "The Wall". Roger Waters penned most of the album himself.

5. What album is "Brain Damage" the penultimate track on?

From Quiz Brain Damage

Answer: Dark Side of the Moon

Following its release in 1973, "Dark Side of the Moon" remained on the US Billboard album charts for almost 750 weeks. That's over 14 years!

6. "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" was Floyd's debut release in 1967. The album's title was taken from a chapter in a book by which children's author?

From Quiz The Albums of Pink Floyd

Answer: Kenneth Grahame

"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" is the title of a chapter from "The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame. 9. What were the first words heard in the song 'In the Flesh?'?

From Quiz Pink Floyd- "The Wall"

10. What was the hit that started it all for Pink Floyd? This was a single and not originally released on any album.

From Quiz Animals at the Gates of the Division Bell

Answer: Arnold Layne

"Arnold Layne", Pink Floyd's first big hit, was about a transvestite. It's B-side was "Candy and a Currant Bun". Although the song can be seen on the bonus CD of "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", it was originally released only as a single.

15. Pink Floyd's world famous album "Dark Side of the Moon" has been known to have a striking number of coincidences with the hit movie "The Wizard of Oz". To hear these coincidences, when must you start the album?

From Quiz A Pink Floyd Coincidence? I Think Not!

Answer: On the third roar of the MGM lion

Apparently there are certain versions of both the movie and the album that you must own to try out the coincidences. According to wwwsongfacts.com, "you must have either the 25th Anniversary edition, digitally mastered edition, or the hybrid SACD, and the NTSC version of the movie, not the 25 fps PAL version which runs a little over 4 percent faster". Although it may be very difficult to attempt nowadays with DVDs and remastered CDs, if you own both the required versions to try out the coincidence, be my guest.

16. On the "Roger Waters Live In The Flesh" DVD, during the middle of "Dogs", four people play a game of cards. Who wins?

Answer: Roger Waters

Roger Waters throws down his last card with a grin on his face and says, "Two shots".
