9. In the early part of the 21st century Queen Elizabeth II became Britain's longest reigning monarch. When anyone was fortunate enough to have an audience with her what would have been the most correct way to address her the first time?

Answer: Your Majesty

If one were to be addressed by Queen Elizabeth II the proper response would conclude with "Your Majesty". The rules of protocol for interaction with members of Britain's royal family have been long-standing and were designed to show utmost respect. Queen Elizabeth II ruled the UK by way of birthright therefore she was a "queen regnant" as compared to a royal woman who married the man born to be king, she would have been a "queen consort". Yet Queen Elizabeth II's husband, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, was not called King Philip. For most circumstances it would have been correct to address all members of the royal family - other than Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, as "Your Royal Highness".
