Answer: Princess Diana

Lady Diana Spencer became Princess Diana on her marriage to Prince Charles. She soon became heavily involved in charitable works and organisations. Visiting AIDS patients and her work with the international campaign to ban land mines were among the more high profile aspects of her work.

Her involvement perhaps stemmed initially from a sense of duty, but most definitely subsequently from a sincere feeling that she could use her position to influence those who could bring about change and, indeed, she was correct in this assumption.

Her death in a car accident in Paris affected countless people in the U.K. and beyond. She, herself, was actually of royal descent, being distantly related to both Charles II and James II, albeit in both cases, through illegitimate children.
