Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ordered Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be thrown into a fiery furnace (Daniel 3)

Answer: Nebuchadnezzar

It boggles the mind, but Nebuchadnezzar was burning with such an uncontrollable rage he ordered Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be thrown into a fiery furnace.

And what horrible crime did the three Jewish men commit? Well they simply refused to bow down and worship an image of gold Nebuchadnezzar had made that measured 90 feet high and 9 feet wide.

The third chapter of Daniel tells of the three Jewish men being bound and thrown into a fiery furnace with the flames being so hot the soldiers taking the trio to their doom were killed.

Miraculously, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were not harmed by the ferocious heat.

Scripture goes on to tell of an astonished Nebuchadnezzar looking into the furnace and seeing the men "walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt."

On top of this Nebuchadnezzar states he saw a fourth men in the furnace "like the Son of God."

The story ends with the king of Babylon singing the praises of "the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants!"
2. Father of Hosea (Hosea 1:1)

Answer: Beeri

When it comes to unusual names in the Bible, Beeri has to make the list. At first glance, one gets the impression Beeri is a nickname for an alcoholic.

However, in reality he was the father of Hosea, an Old Testament prophet, who prophesied in the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, and Jeroboam, king of Israel.

However, little is known about Beeri as he is mentioned only in passing reference.
3. King of Judah also known as Azariah (2 Chronicles 26)

Answer: Uzziah

Uzziah, the tenth king of Judah, was also known as Azariah.

At the tender age of 16, he replaced his father Amaziah as king and reigned for 52 years. His mother's name was Jekoliah.

2 Chronicles 26:4-5, in the NKJV Bible, has this to about Uzziah: "And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper."

According to Scripture, the Prophet Isaiah began his ministry the same year Uzziah died.
4. Became king of Israel after assassinating Nadab (1 Kings 25:27)

Answer: Baasha

Baasha became king of Israel after he assassinated Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, as per (1 Kings 25:27.

Baasha reigned over Israel for 24 years. According to Scripture, his tumultuous reign was marked with idolatry and constant war with Judah.

After his death, Baasha was replaced by his son Elah, who would end up being assassinated.

For details see 1 Kings 15:16 and 16:7.
5. Wicked king of Judah crowned at age 12 (2 Kings 21)

Answer: Manasseh

Manasseh is the correct answer.

According to Scripture, he became king of Judah when he was only 12 years old and was extremely brutal, reigning for 55 turbulent years. He was the son of Hezekiah.

2 Kings 21:16, in the NIV Bible, states Manasseh "shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end."

His 55-year rule was the longest of any king in Judah.
6. Writer of a book in Minor Prophets section

Answer: Haggai

Haggai is the writer of the Book of Haggai, one of twelve books that are part of the Minor Prophets section in the Bible. The reference is to the relative brevity of their prophecies, not to any lack of significance.

In the book, Haggai expresses sorrow the Jews who had returned to Jerusalem were placing priority on building their houses while the temple of God was in ruins. Previous to returning to Jerusalem, the Jews had been in exile in Babylon.

The Book of Haggai consists of two chapters.
7. Believed to be son of Philemon (Philemon 1:1-2)

Answer: Archippus

It is assumed Archippus was the son of Philemon and his mother was Apphia. The assumption is based on the salutation Paul writes in Philemon 1:1-2.

The verses in the NKJV state in part: "To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house."

An AI overview states Archippus is "often considered the son of Philemon and Apphia, as he is mentioned in conjunction with their household church."
8. Member of early church cited by Paul in Romans 16

Answer: Apelles

Apelles is one of a number of people Paul extends greetings to in Romans 16, the final chapter of his letter to Christians in Rome.

Little is known about Apelles, however, as he is mentioned in passing reference.

Out of thirteen books Paul is credited with writing, Romans is first in the order of appearance.
9. One of the original twelve disciples

Answer: Thaddaeus

Thaddaeus is mentioned in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark as one of the original twelve disciples. However, in the Gospel of Luke it mentions Judas son of James in his place.

John 14:22 also makes mention of Judas, pointing out the person in question is not Judas Iscariot who betrayed Christ for thirty pieces of silver.
10. Father of two disciples (Matthew 4:21)

Answer: Zebedee

Zebedee was a fisherman in Bethsaida, on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, and his wife was Salome.

Using the NKJV, Zebedee's name in mentioned eleven times in Scripture, however, little is known about him as he is always mentioned in passing reference.
