Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was a prophet of God and the writer of a major book in the Old Testament?

Answer: Isaiah

Isaiah, the son of Amoz, is the correct answer. According to Isaiah 1:1, he prophesied in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. He is credited with writing the book of Isaiah, a major book of prophecy in the Old Testament. Christians believe a substantial amount of the content in the book of Isaiah pertains to the coming of Jesus Christ. (An example of this is Isaiah 53.) In fact, Isaiah is the most quoted book in the New Testament.

In addition to Isaiah, other major books of prophecy in the Old Testament are Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
2. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one is known as 'the weeping prophet'?

Answer: Jeremiah

Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet. He is credited with writing the books of Jeremiah and Lamentations which tell of the difficulties he faced while serving God. As a result, Bible scholars now refer to him as the weeping prophet.

According to Jerremiah 1:1, Jeremiah's father had a name that ended in the letters 'IAH'. His father was Hilkiah. The same verse states Jeremiah came from Anathoth, a village in land allocated to the tribe of Benjamin.
3. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was murdered by David?

Answer: Uriah

Uriah, the first husband of Bathsheba, is the correct answer. David orchestrated Uriah's murder after he had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba while her soldier husband was away fighting in a battle. David tried to set up a series of events in which Uriah would become convinced he was the father of Bathsheba's child but try as he may, nothing worked. So David became convinced his only out was to have Uriah killed. To this end, David gave instructions to have Uriah placed in the front line where the fighting was fiercest and then had all the men withdraw, as per 2 Samuel 11:15.

This time, David's plan worked and Uriah was killed in battle.
4. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was vehemently opposed to construction of a wall around Jerusalem?

Answer: Tobiah

Tobiah was vehemently opposed to construction of a wall around Jerusalem by the Jews who had returned from captivity in Babylon, according to Nehemiah 4:7. And Tobiah was not alone in his opposition. Verse 7 states Sanballat as well as the Arabs, the Ammonites and the Ashdodites were "very angry" about the wall's construction.

Despite the efforts of their many adversaries, the Jews were able to complete construction of the wall around Jerusalem.
5. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was a cruel and evil queen of Israel?

Answer: Athaliah

Athaliah had cruel and evil parents and she was a carbon copy. Ahab was her father and Jezebel, generally regarded as the most wicked woman in the Bible, was her mother. (2 Kings 8:18)

2 Kings 11 tells of her son Ahaziah being king and when he died Athaliah seized the opportunity to become queen. And to help accomplish her objective, she took diabolical action. Scripture states Athaliah killed all Ahaziah's children, or her own grandchildren, except Joash, the youngest, as per 2 Kings 11:1-2. (Joash was placed in hiding and Athaliah couldn't find him to execute.)

Six years after she ascended to the throne, the wicked queen was killed in an insurrection. According to 2 Kings 11:20, news of her death sparked rejoicing among "all the people of the land".
6. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was the original name of Shadrach, a man who survived being thrown into a fiery furnace with two of his friends?

Answer: Hananiah

Hananiah was given the name Shadrach by the chief of the eunuchs of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, as per Daniel 1:7. Three of his friends were also given new names. Daniel was given the name Belteshazzar while Mishael was given Meshach and Azariah given Abed-Nego. Scripture goes on to tell of Hannaniah, along with Meshach and Abed-Nego being thrown into a fiery furnace for their refusal to bow down and worship a golden image set up by Nebuchadnezzar. However, miraculously the three men were not harmed.

Scripture tells of an astonished Nebuchadnezzar looking in the furnace and seeing four men, not three, walking unharmed in the flames. Daniel 3:25 in the NKJV quotes the king as saying: "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."
7. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was a king of Israel who had fifteen years added to his life by God?

Answer: Hezekiah

Hezekiah had fifteen years added to his life after he was seriously ill. Scripture tells of Hezekiah being in grave condition with Isaiah telling him there was no hope and death was imminent. Immediately after Isaiah left, Hezekiah pored out his heart to God and there was a miraculous change. 2 Kings 20:4-5 states Isaiah received a divine message telling him to return to Hezekiah and inform him he would be healed. Scripture goes on to report God added fifteen years to Hezekiah's life.

No information is given about the disease Hezekiah had been suffering from.

For details about fifteen years being added to Hezekiah's life, see 2 Kings 20:1-11.
8. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one played a key role in re-building a wall around Jerusalem?

Answer: Nehemiah

Nehemiah is best known for construction of the wall around Jerusalem. Scripture tells of Nehemiah, a cupbearer to King King Artaxerxes, obtaining permission to lead a large group of Israelites who were held in captivity in Babylon to Jerusalem to construct a wall around their beloved city. Details can be found in the Old Testament book that bears Nehemiah's name.

While Nehemiah is known for overcoming major obstacles to construct the wall, not much is known about his personal life. According to Nehemiah 1:1-2, he had a brother called Hanani and their father was Hacaliah.
9. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one, according to 2 Kings 22:8, was the high priest who found the long-lost book of the law?

Answer: Hilkiah

2 Kings 22:3-20 tells of Hilkiah finding the long-lost book of the law. According to the passage, Hilkiah had been instructed by Josiah, king of Judah, to provide a count of the money which had been brought into the house of the LORD. It was during this endeavor Hilkiah found the book of the law.

Chapter 23 of 2 Kings goes on to tell of Josiah taking steps to ensure the people worshipped only the LORD. The king also took swift and decisive action against those encouraging the Israelites to worship false gods. 2 Kings 23:19-20 in the NKJV explains things this way: "Now Josiah also took away all the shrines of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger; and he did to them according to all the deeds he had done in Bethel. He executed all the priests of the high places who were there, on the altars, and burned men's bones on them."
10. Out of the four names below ending with the letters 'IAH', which one was the last king of Judah with one of the last sights he saw was his sons being put to death before he was blinded by the Babylonians?

Answer: Zedekiah

When a nation was conquered in Biblical times, the people often experienced sadistic and merciless brutality. A case in point was Zedekiah, the last king of Judah.

Jeremiah 39 tells of some of the atrocious torture afflicted on Zedekiah by the conquering Babylonian army. According to Verses 6-7, Zedekiah was forced to witness his sons being killed "before his eyes". It would be the last sight Zedekiah would ever see because immediately after the murder of his sons, Scripture states his eyes were gouged out and he was bound with bronze shackles and taken captive to Babylon. No details are given as to how many sons were murdered.

Zedekiah's punishment is seen as divine retribution as 2 Kings 24:19-20 and Jeremiah 52:2-3 tell of him doing "evil in the sight of the LORD". Zedekiah was a son of Josiah and Hamutal.

It must be pointed out there are three other men in the Old Testament called Zedekiah. One was the son of Hananiah, a prince to whom Michaiah told a prophecy by Jeremiah, as per Jeremiah 36:12.

The two other Zedekiahs were false prophets. The first false prophet was the son of Chenaanah who lived during the reigns of Jehoshaphat and Ahab, as per 1 Kings 22:24. The second false prophet was the son of Maaseiah, as per Jeremiah 29:21.
