Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dellavedova came into the NBA in 2013. Who drafted him?

Answer: Nobody

Dellavedova went entirely undrafted, signing a small deal with Cleveland to join their Summer League squad. He impressed early on when given time in the summer, which eventually led to him signing a one year deal in mid September to officially join the Cavaliers active roster.
2. In 2014, Dellavedova earned some limelight on All-Star Weekend. In what function did he participate?

Answer: Rising Stars Challenge

The Rising Stars Challenge is an exhibition basketball game where both teams' rosters are composed of rookies, second year players and, as of 2022, NBA G-League players. Dellavedova was in his second season, making him eligible for the game. Dellavedova was not originally named to the game, but was later tabbed as a replacement for Kelly Olynyk, who had to miss the game due to injury. Dellavedova played 16 minutes, adding 6 points on 2/3 shooting in Team World's eventual 121-112 victory.
3. Some players make names of themselves off the field and, in March of 2015, Dellavedova wanted to become one such player. With seventeen year old Jackie Custer, Dellavedova attended the "A Prom to Remember" event. Where did this take place?

Answer: Akron's Children Hospital

Custer told WEWS, an ABC affiliate, that she chose Dellavedova because she was a high school basketball point guard at the time, and this was the position Dellavedova came to Cleveland initially playing. The arrangement went swimmingly and, per Custer, her and Dellavedova remained in touch with each other even after the event took place.
4. In the 2014-15 season, Dellavedova found himself playing a key role as the Cavaliers advanced to the Finals, then won two of the first three games. Unfortunately for Dellavedova, he had an incident after Game 3, in which he needed medical attention. What happened?

Answer: He was severely dehydrated

In game 3 of the Finals against Golden State, Dellavedova scored a playoff career high 20 points in what was a very close, hard fought defensive struggle of a 95-93 victory. Perhaps Dellavedova truly gave this game his everything, as not long after, he was taken to the Cleveland Clinic and put on an IV due to dehydration.

Afterward, it was said Dellavedova had been consuming coffee all day to quench his thirst, explaining why things went down the way they did.
5. As a Cavalier, Dellavedova would end up earning an NBA Finals championship. In what season did this happen?

Answer: 2015-16

In the 2015-16 NBA Finals, the Cavaliers fell down 3-1 in a best of seven set to the Golden State Warriors. They would then become the first team in NBA Finals history to overcome a 3-1 deficit, winning the next three games, two in Golden State, to win the series 4-3. Dellavedova played a humble but all too necessary role in the team getting here.

He only averaged eight minutes per game, but Delly's value to the team is not something you could find in a box score. He was an enforcer and a crunch time defender, two roles he played excellently.

While Dellavedova did become publicly frowned on for "dirty play" as labeled by commentator Charles Barkley, he was equally loudly supported by his Cavalier teammates coming to his public defense.
6. In early July of 2016, for the first time in his career, Matthew Dellavedova was traded. To which team did the Cleveland Cavaliers trade him?

Answer: Milwaukee Bucks

Specifically, it was a sign-and-trade deal, so Matthew Dellavedova was first signed to a contract extension by Cleveland, and was then dealt to Milwaukee to play out the contract. It was a 4 year deal, which the Bucks happily took on in exchange for Cleveland receiving a huge trade exception and the rights to Albert Miralles.
7. As a Cleveland Cavalier, Matthew Dellavedova was always a bench player. When they traded him, did he remain a bench player, or did he become a starter?

Answer: Starter

Dellavedova started a career high 54 games in his first season with Milwaukee, missing action due to various injuries, but otherwise cementing himself as the team's starting shooting guard. In this capacity, he averaged career highs of 7.6 points per game, 4.7 assists per game and just over 26 minutes a game.
8. In December of 2018, Dellavedova would return to Cleveland, not long after being traded. How did the Cavaliers re-acquire him?

Answer: Trade

A three team trade between the Cavaliers, Bucks and Washington Wizards would ultimately bring Dellavedova back to the Wine and Gold. This was welcome news for Cavaliers fans, as Dellavedova notably received a standing ovation in his first game back in Cleveland, an ironic loss to Dellavedova's former Milwaukee Bucks team at that.
9. Dellavedova's return to Cleveland in December 2018 lasted a few seasons before the Cavaliers let him go. After a year with Melbourne United of the Australian NBL, Dellavedova gained an opportunity to return to the NBA in 2022. Who signed him?

Answer: Sacramento Kings

Unfortunately, a right index finger fracture muddied much of Dellavedova's time with the Kings, limiting him to just 32 games in which he averaged a lowly 1.5 points per game on an average of 7 minutes a game. As a result, the Kings let Dellavedova go, and that would be the last NBA action he would ultimately see.
10. As a basketball player, Dellavedova has earned some Olympic hardware. On whose behalf did Dellavedova earn a Bronze medal?

Answer: Australia

In 2020, Dellavedova took home a bronze medal for Australia. He was key in the Australian team's 97-59 victory over Argentina in the quarterfinals. In doing so, Dellavedova found himself playing alongside fellow NBA players Joe Ingles, Dante Exum and Aron Baynes.

However, the USA's squad helmed by Kevin Durant and Devin Booker proved too much for Australia, beating Dellavedova's squad 97-78 in the semifinals.
