In 1957, Rawlings first awarded the Gold Glove to the top fielders at each position in Major League Baseball and the following year began recognizing the best fielders in the National League and American League separately.

Greg Maddux won 18 Gold Gloves in a pitching career that began in 1992 with the Chicago Cubs and ended in 2008 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, although he's best known for his years with the Atlanta Braves (1993-2003). He also pitched for the San Diego Padres and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Brooks Robinson won 16 Gold Gloves playing third base for the Baltimore Orioles from 1955 through 1977. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.

Pitcher Jim Kaat won 16 Gold Gloves in a 25-year career (1959-1983) starting with the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins and continuing with the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.

Catcher Ivan Rodriguez won 13 Gold Gloves. Between 1991 and 2011 he played for the Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and Washington Nationals. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017.

Shortstop Ozzie Smith won 13 Gold Gloves in a career that started with the San Diego Padres in 1978 and reached a peak with the St Louis Cardinals from 1982 through 1996. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.

Roberto Clemente won 12 Gold Gloves as an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His 18-year career began in 1955 and ended tragically in 1972 when he died in a plane crash while delivering relief supplies to victims of the Nicaraguan earthquake. Due to his untimely death, he did not have to wait the usual five years and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.

Willie Mays made his professional debut with the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues in 1948 and in 1951 started a long career patrolling the outfield for the New York/San Francisco Giants where he won 12 Gold Gloves. He finished his career playing part of the 1972 season and the 1973 season for the New York Mets. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.

Keith Hernandez won 11 Gold Gloves playing first base for the St. Louis Cardinals, with whom he made his debut in 1974, and the New York Mets. He finished his career with the Cleveland Indians in 1990 and as of 2025 has not been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Shortstop Omar Vizquel won 11 Gold Gloves, playing for the Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays between 1989 and 2012.

Second baseman Roberto Alomar won 10 Gold Gloves in a career than spanned 1988-2004 and included stints with the San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Third Baseman Mike Schmidt won 10 Gold Gloves in a 1973-1989 career spent entirely with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.

His professional career started in 1992 with the Orix BlueWave in his native Japan and continued in the United States with the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Miami Marlins between 2001 and 2019. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025.

Outfielder Andruw Jones won 10 Gold Gloves in a career that spanned 1996-2012 and included stints with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and Chicago White Sox. He also played for the Tohoku Rakutan Golden Eagles in Japan 2012-2013.

Al Kaline won 10 Gold Gloves playing the outfield for the Detroit Tigers between 1955 and 1974. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980.

Catcher Johnny Bench won 10 Gold Gloves playing for the Cincinnati Reds between 1967 and 1983. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.

Third baseman Nolan Arenado won his tenth Gold Glove in 2022 with the St. Louis Cardinals. His career started in 2013 with the Colorado Rockies before he joined the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2021 season.
