Written 1919 by Frank Crumit, who ironically was a student of Ohio University, not Ohio State, the "Buckeye Battle Cry" is one of two fight songs played by the Ohio State University Marching Band during games. It was entered into and won a contest held to determine Ohio State's fight song, and was fully adopted by 1928. The other song played during games is titled "Across the Field."

"The Buckeye Battle Cry" is played during the pregame at Ohio Stadium. The chorus is also played after the marching band performs "Script Ohio," the marching formation that the OSU band is most famous for. It is also played after every touchdown the Ohio State football team scores, and win or lose, it is played at the conclusion of each game after the playing of the Alma Mater, "Carmen Ohio."
