Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Though John has many interests, his profession is actually which of these?

Answer: School teacher

While preparing a birthday surprise for his boyfriend, John makes a mess, eventually appearing in their dining room with an immaculate lingonberry cake inspired by David's trip to the fjords. John asks him to cut the cake, but David can't; his tremors are too overwhelming for him to overcome.

David commends John, later, for following through on his passions-- cooking school being one-- as it's a good indication that they're both optimistic about the next chapter of life. John, a fourth-grade humanities teacher, seems to dread the start of every week, and it doesn't help that he brings home every sickness from his students. John changed his life to live with David, but he says he needs something of his own to avoid spiralling.
2. John's colleague, Jordan, buys devices for an app to track which of these?

Answer: Running routes

David, feeling more like giving than receiving for his birthday, ends up gifting John his Ferrari before the night is through, and that's why John drives the well-maintained vehicle to work the next morning, pulling up and taking several spaces in the old car.

John's colleague, Jordan, suggests that he's worked hard and deserves nice things. It's why, when he arrives at school, Jordan hands him a couple devices to be linked to an app called JogMapper. With it, they can track each others' runs and keep each other accountable to prep for a marathon.

For his class, Jordan discusses burial chambers and sites of reverence while his iPad vibrates continuously with messages and phone calls from Dr. Ziegler. He pauses the class to answer the emergency call to hear bad news-- David has had a stroke, an embolism. Things are delicate. He needs to head to the hospital.
3. Instead of staying at the hospital after his stroke, David's mandate is to be taken to which of these?

Answer: His lab

Rushing to the hospital, things go from bad to worse as John, overhearing David's doctor speaking to his attorney, Ms. Kieslowski, discovers that David's mandate is to be removed from the premises immediately. It's David's own wishes, she claims, that if he were ever put into such a medical state that he would be placed into a medically-induced coma. As a result, he has to be transported, immediately, to his lab at Toranos headquarters. There is no legal binding agreement giving John power of attorney, so there is no choice in this matter.

John returns home and attempts to keep things together, calling in to work before heading to the lab the next day. Jordan, talking to him on the phone, suggests that there's something very detached about the way John is taking all of this. John doesn't have much of a preference though, especially when he looks over to the nearby building and sees David standing at a window, waving at him from a distance before walking away.

John rushes into the building, racing past the security guards in an attempt to chase after David. He ends up finding him...or what appears to be him...but it appears to be nothing more than a robot, locked away in a glass room.
4. According to David, the android created in his likeness is missing which of these critical components?

Answer: John

Ms. Kieslowski has to explain the truth to John-- the David resting in the lab is a work in progress, and with the proper therapy there's a hope that he will return to his healthier self or be improved. Handing John a tablet, she lets David explain everything himself in a recording, and as it turns out, all of this treatment was his own plan and doing. He only regrets that he can't be in two places at once.

After David's diagnosis, he explains, he commissioned a team to engineer an android that could look, sound, and think like him. It was somewhat of a clone, only to be activated in his absence. It's programmed to see the world like him, and the AI within it is more complex than anything the world had ever seen. The problem is that it has been missing something critical-- John. Only John can help calibrate the clone.

David signs off by saying he hopes to see him soon. The android is left at the house, and John is expected to start getting to know it.
5. What phrase is allegedly meant to turn off the David android?

Answer: "Good night, David."

Though apprehensive, John activates the David android and it immediately recognizes him, rising to approach. Terrified, John shuts it down with the 'Good night, David' command. Its uncanniness puts him off from the jump. That night, John awakens to find the David android watching him sleep. He brings David downstairs, has him stand in a corner, and shuts him down once again.

John returns to the lab the next day to speak to Ms. Kieslowski. Standing over David's bed, he explains that there's only one David; it's just not the same.

When John returns home, he speaks to the David android frankly, nuzzling close in an attempt to feel something for the machine. After John takes a shower, the David android offers to give him a massage, but the attempt to relax him ends not only with a dangerously tight grip around his neck, but a bit of a backfire on the android's part. John admits, to both himself and the robot, that he's quite scared. He feels he has no control over his own life. The android suggests it's all a case of grief.
6. Does the David android exhibit skills beyond typical human capabilities?

Answer: Yes

Life at home continues to be overwhelming, especially with David's continued quirks. While preparing for dinner, David rapid-chops an onion with superhuman speed but doesn't notice his own tears from the chemicals. John invites him to dine with him, something the android appreciates very much. And it works out quite well; both of them seem to get more comfortable in each others' company.

The following morning, John awakens to find David making him breakfast. While David preps the ingredients, John gets a call from Jordan, insisting that he get ready to be picked up in twenty minutes; they're going out for a run. John doesn't notice David's increased fervour-- perhaps a sign of jealousy.

Jordan lets himself in when he arrives, seeing his way to the bathroom while John gets ready. Naturally, he stumbles upon the David android. He expresses his concern over the situation, but the two leave the robot to itself before heading out.
7. Who kills Jordan?

Answer: David's android

When John and Jordan return from their run...and their evening out together, robot David awakens to hear them stumbling into the house. Jordan doesn't hide his attraction to John as the two of them head up to the bedroom, but he crosses the line by attempting to force himself on his colleague. John ends up kicking him out.

When Jordan heads downstairs, however, he finds David's android in the kitchen roasting herbs and nuts on the stove. Jordan, afraid of the robot before him, brandishes a large knife, but David steps into the blade before turning it around and plunging it into Jordan's chest.

The android proceeds to systematically chop and disassemble Jordan's corpse, burning, blending, and burying pieces of it. John only notices something is amiss when he hears David chopping wood outside that night.
8. Which of these doesn't burn with the rest of Jordan's body?

Answer: Tracking chip

When John awakens the next morning he finds himself unrested. Though David brings him a freshly-made sandwich, John acknowledges that he doesn't have it in himself to be around the android for the day. Instead, he asks the robot David to stay on the other side of the house while he copes with the situation.

John goes out for a run instead of staying in, racing down the forest paths in the crisp, autumn air. Following the JogMapper app, he finds Jordan's signal deeper in the woods, stumbling upon a building containing a recently-used fireplace. In amongst the ashes is the tracking device from Jordan's set.

When John asks the David android for the truth, the robot says that he's only set up to protect who he loves. It's the only way that David can be who John always wanted him to be.
9. Does the real David ever awaken from his coma?

Answer: Yes

John, seemingly flipped in his opinion of the David robot once it expresses its eagerness to be everything he John wants him to be, takes the android out to the bar for the evening, ordering him shots before hopping onto the dance floor.

After the rough evening of drinking, things appear to change. Though still hungover, John admits to David that he's never felt more in sync with someone than he has with the new version of his lover. It is, as he claims, perfect.

John's phone rings-- it appears to be Ms. Kieslowski calling from Toranos headquarters. As it turns out, David's awake. His vitals are up and he's bound to make a full recovery. They'll retrieve the android that afternoon. John tells the David android that they'll just need to enjoy the time they still have.
10. At the end of the experiment, what is the fate of the David android?

Answer: It's kept active, being paired to a new user

As their time appears to come to a close, John and the robot David both try to take what remaining moments they can with one another. John admits that he's come to realize what he wants, but the David android also reveals that he's changed. He thought he knew everything about how to be a companion to John, but he learned how to love, really.

The technicians retrieve the David robot and return him to the lab. Shortly after, John is brought to see the real David.

Things are stilted between John and the real David almost from the get-go. David admits he was wrong not to say anything before everything came to pass, but with the AI arms race between his company and Chinese tech industries it was too dangerous to leak any info. John is concerned, however, that he was given no agency in the situation; he felt like he was the experiment when really he just wanted to feel like they could be partners together.

It's why David has John murdered, then and there, having realized that the perfect man for him is none other than himself.

David returns home with the robot version of himself now paired to his needs. As the two lay in bed together, the robot David finds photos of himself with John, but it appears he has no memory of who the man once was.
