Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Grace

The burnt-out skeleton of Brighton's West Pier (pictured) appears in most episodes of "Grace", often during the opening credits. First airing in 2021, the series follows Detective Superintendent Roy Grace (John Simm), as he solves murders and other crimes, whilst dealing with problems in his private life as well.
2. Foyle's War

"Foyle's War" is set in Hastings, in Sussex, during and just after World War II. While the photo is of a slightly earlier vintage, it has been chosen to suggest a period piece. While the war forms a backdrop to the cases solved by Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen), it is the criminal cases that are the core of the series. Foyle is ably assisted by his driver, Samantha (Honeysuckle Weeks) and Detective Inspector Paul Milner (Anthony Howell).

The series ran for twenty-eight episodes, between 2002 and 2015.
3. Bergerac

"Bergerac" (1981-1991) stars a young John Nettles as Detective Sergeant Jim Bergerac, a recovering alcoholic trying to prove to his superiors that he is a capable policeman and worthy of their trust. Set in Jersey, in the Channel Islands, the series' opening credits feature an aerial outline view of the island. The photo is of the marina of St Helier in Jersey.

Fans of "Midsomer Murders" will know Nettles as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby.
4. Endeavour

"Endeavour" (2012-2023) is the prequel to "Inspector Morse" (1987-2000), and both are set in Oxford, sometimes amongst the dreaming spires of the university (pictured), and sometimes in more seedy locations. Shaun Evans plays the younger version of Morse (following John Thaw's older Morse) and introduces some of the idiosyncrasies familiar to fans of the earlier series (and Colin Dexter's books).

The action of "Endeavour" takes place in the 1960s and '70s, and covers police corruption as well as the usual murder and mayhem. Roger Allam portrays Morse's colleague and mentor, Detective Inspector Fred Thursday.
5. Taggart

"Taggart" (1983-2010) is set in Glasgow, Scotland, and consists of gritty and grisly murder investigations, for the most part. Initially these were led by Detective Chief Inspector Jim Taggart (Mark McManus), who was a no nonsense copper. When McManus died, in 1994, the series continued under the same title, despite no longer having a lead character named Taggart.
6. Hudson and Rex

St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada is the setting for "Hudson and Rex", and each episode shows recognizable parts of the city, pictured here. Charlie Hudson often announces that he's from the "SJPD" when he and his partner Rex approach a witness or suspect. John Reardon plays Hudson, and Rex, a German Shepherd, is played by Diesel vom Burgimwald. Together they solve a variety of crimes, along with other members of their team.
7. CSI (original)

The full title of the original series is "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (2000-2015), though it is sometimes referred to as "CSI: Las Vegas" to differentiate it from spinoffs set in Miami and New York. In 2021 the series reboot, "CSI: Vegas" arrives, and some of the original cast take part in various seasons.

The original team included Gil Grissom (William Petersen), Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) and Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda) amongst others. The city of Las Vegas could almost be considered a cast member, given its importance to many investigations.
8. Bosch

The picture here is very like the view from Harry Bosch's hillside home in the original seasons of "Bosch" (2014-2021), before an earthquake renders it unsafe and he has to move. Titus Welliver plays Bosch, an experienced, grumpy, somewhat disgruntled homicide detective, who is very good at his job. Each season concentrates on a major case, often being based on one of Michael Connelly's books, whilst intertwining personal details of family and colleagues.
9. The Guardian

Pittsburgh is recognizable in the opening credits of "The Guardian" (2001-2004), if only because the Pittsburgh Plate Glass building is so distinctive. Simon Baker stars as lawyer Nick Fallin, whose drug problem lands him in trouble. He's given 1500 hours of community service instead of jail time, working as a child-advocate (a guardian) for Legal Aid Services.

Initially uninterested in the job he simply puts in the time, but over the seasons he experiences some growth of character.
10. Wild Cards

"Wild Cards" first season in 2024 introduces us to Cole Ellis (Giacomo Giannotti) and Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan). He's a Vancouver, BC, Canada, policeman who lives on a boat with his cat Mark, and is hopeful of being returned to duty as a detective after being relegated to Harbour Patrol. She's a con artist who wants to avoid jail time after being caught. They are paired up and given a chance to prove themselves by solving a few crimes together. They bicker amusingly, and actually do solve some crimes, though somewhat unconventionally.

Fans of "Grey's Anatomy" may recall Giannotti as Dr. Andrew DeLuca.
